[edit] Plot

The Earth is suffering the effects of nuclear war: the human birthrate has fallen so that the population is in decline. The "humanoids" of the title are advanced robots created in the service of human beings. A human scientist, Dr. Raven (Doolittle) has developed a technique called the "Thalamic Transplant" whereby the memories and personality of a recently deceased human can be transferred to a robotic replica of the body of the human. Such human-humanoid hybrids awake from the process unaware of their own transformation from human to robot.

The robots are opposed by a human organization called the "Order of Flesh and Blood," who disparagingly refer to the robots as "clickers." One of the leaders of the Order, Capt. Kenneth Cragis (Megowan) discovers clues which will lead him to fall in love, and discover the secret not only of the robot's human "replacement" program, but of the future for himself, his new love, and the human race as a whole.
