The band formed when the members were just 15. The band was initially known as "kiros"[citation needed] but changed its name three years later to "Corona", but when the Italian dance act Corona re-emerged, the band changed their name again to "The Coronas".[citation needed].

Danny O'Reilly (son of legendary Irish vocalist Mary Black), Conor and Knoxy hail from Terenure in Dublin, which is home to fellow Irish artists Republic of Loose and Rob Smith. Dave hails from Ranelagh in Dublin.

To date the Coronas biggest hit has been "San Diego Song" which has been in the Irish Singles Chart for 24 weeks[1].The band's debut album Heroes or Ghosts was released on October 5, 2007, debuting at #21 in the Irish Albums Chart [2], and was described by Hot Press as "walking a soulful line between Jeff Buckley and the Libertines” and has been lodged in the Irish charts since its release.[citation needed]

The Coronas have appeared on RTE's Late Late Show, The Cafe and The Podge and Rodge Show, TV3's event guide, Channel 6's Popscene and numerous radio shows. The band won the Jack Daniels Set, showcasing new bands, in 2006.[citation needed]

In 2008 the Coronas were nominated for a Meteor Award, in the Best Irish Pop Act category. The award was won by Westlife, on February 15, 2008.

On March 8th 2008, they played their biggest headlining gig to date at the 1,300 capacity Ambassador Theatre in Dublin.
