The Community Group, also known as the Independent Community Group (ICG), and registered with the Electoral Commission as The Community (London Borough of Hounslow), is a small political party based in Isleworth, in the London Borough of Hounslow.
The party was originally founded on 1 January 1994 as the Isleworth Community Group to build a "vibrant community" and to advocate public participation within the decision making processes.
Following the 2006 local elections on 4 May 2006, the group now has six councillors, representing the three seat Isleworth (Paul Fisher, Phil Andrews and Dr. Geneveive Hibbs) and Syon wards (Shirley Fisher, Caroline Andrews and Jon Hardy). They form part of the borough's administration in run Hounslow coalition with the Conservative group of councillors.
In the 2005 general election, the group's leader, Phil Andrews, stood for the Brentford and Isleworth parliamentary seat, winning 2.4% of the vote.
The lead member of the Community Group, councillor Phil Andrews, has admitted to previously being an active member of the National Front. He has vociferously denied any continuing belief in the same or similar racist ideologies as those espoused by the National Front. Some critics have found contradictory evidence in the policies of the Community Group[citation needed] and the party's support base does not appear to reflect the diverse ethnic population of the borough[citation needed].
