The Co-operators is a 100% Canadian-owned company with over 60 years of history as a co-operative, owned by 37 members. It is the largest wholly Canadian owned multiline insurer, offering services for Auto, Home, Life, Farm, and Business insurance as well as investments. The company was started by farmers in Saskatchewan, following the Great Depression.

[edit] History

In 1945, a group of Saskatchewan wheat farmers decided to pool their collective resources to start an insurance co-operative. In those first years, many Saskatchewan Wheat Pool field men wore two hats: carrying out the business of the Wheat Pool and selling life insurance for the new company.
