The Chop Tops are a Revved-Up Rockabilly band from Santa Cruz, California consisting of Sinner (vocals/standing drums), Shelby (guitar) and Brett (upright bass). The band has coined the phrase "Revved-Up Rockabilly" to describe their wild upbeat blend of Rockabilly, Psychobilly, Old Punk, Teddy Boy, & Surf music genres. The Chop Tops have toured frequently with the Nekromantix and headline their own national tours. The band was formed in 1995 by Sinner and original guitarist "Flyin'" Brian. Shelby joined in 1999 and the band became a trio in 2000. Former Three Bad Jacks bassist Brett took over bass duties in 2008.
Among their many accomplishments, the Chop Tops won the Santa Cruz Battle of the Bands in 2004[1] and performed at the 2006 and 2007 Warped Tours.[2] [3] The band is currently sponsored by Murray's Pomade.[4] Murray's has sponsored two bands in its 82-year history, the Stray Cats and the Chop Tops.
"Chop-top" refers to the practice of lowering the roof on the body of the vehicle by cutting portions of the frame and door frames and reinstalling custom glass for a custom look.[5]
