The Cedars formed in April 2004 in London, United Kingdom by Jason Moffat (born. South Africa) and Chantal Hill (born. Scotland).
Around the beginning of January 2006 Pedro Vidal (born. Portugal) and Stephen Coates (born. South Africa) joined The Cedars to make it a 4-piece. Their musical style combines elements of blues, bluegrass, americana, appalachia, folk, and elements of Scottish and English folk. From interviews read about the band it seems the members have fairly disparate musical backgrounds and quite unrelated to the style they play, but have still managed to play most of the mainstream festivals and venues including both Reading and Glastonbury Festivals, The Secret Garden Party, The Jazz Cafe etc...
