For the Australian indie pop band of the same name, see The Boat People (Australian band).

The Boat People were a hardcore punk band founded in Grand Island, Nebraska, U.S., in 1982. It was generally acknowledged as the first band of the genre in Nebraska. An alter ego of The Boat People was the experimental group AMA, featuring many of the same members. The Boat People broke up in 1984.

Several Boat People alumni are currently active in bands and projects including FM3 and Digital Cutup Lounge.
