The Black Magician (novel series)

The Black Magician trilogy is a fantasy novel series by Australian author Trudi Canavan. It is set mainly in the fictional land of Kyralia, and focuses on The Magicians' Guild in Imardin, Kyralia's capital city. It currently runs to three stories and is thought of as a trilogy.

A sequel and a prequel are planned. The prequel, entitled The Magician's Apprentice, deals with the Sachakan war.[1] The sequel, a three book series, deals with the aftermath of the Black Magician Trilogy and the first book will probably be released at the end of 2008.[1]

Each year, the streets of Imardin are purged of the poor and homeless by the powerful Magicians' Guild, and each year, gangs of local youths protest and resist, usually without effect. But this year, one such youth manages to injure one of the magicians, revealing herself to be magically gifted. What follows is the hunt for a girl called Sonea, whose magical powers have developed naturally, and who believes the guild will kill her if they find her, while the guild are far more concerned with the damage she could do to herself and others if not found in time.

In the Magicians' Guild, Sonea has earned the respect of most other novices, however Regin ignores her. But she has witnessed something in High Lord Akkarin's hidden underground place. A stranger offers to assist Cery, he knows he shouldn't accept this type of help. Akkarin reveals more of what he knows, but Sonea is not sure who to believe, or fear.
