[edit] Episode recap
Jon is preparing for a date with a new girlfriend (Heather), and he gets out his little black book so that he can call her to get directions to her apartment. A man answers the phone, but Jon still explains that he and she are supposed to go out. The man then informs him that he’s taking her out and hangs up. (It is then revealed that the man is actually her brother.)
Jon decides to become a confirmed bachelor, and he gives Garfield his little black book and tells him to never give it back. Jon quickly changes his mind and asks for it back. Garfield obliges; Jon reminds him that he’s not supposed to give it back. Garfield is confused until Jon asks for the book again, to which Garfield gives it to him again. Again Jon reminds him not to give it back, and Garfield is aggravated and walks off with it.
Jon decides to order a pizza, but this time when he walks over to the telephone he notices the light on his answering machine blinking. He plays the message, which has Heather explaining that her brother came into town and wants to take her out to dinner. He realizes that the other man was her brother, so he asks Garfield for the little black book again. This time Garfield reveals that he’s hidden it.
Jon tries to bribe Garfield with lasagna. When this doesn’t work (although Garfield still eats the lasagna), Jon wrestles Garfield to the ground just as Heather arrives with her brother. She says that Jon isn’t a nice guy like she thought and that she never wants to see him again. After she leaves, Garfield goes into Jon’s back pocket and hands him the black book, but because Jon thinks Heather is gone forever, he tells Odie to bury it in the yard. Jon then apologizes to Garfield; then Heather comes back to further scold Jon until she sees how gentle he is with Garfield after all. They decide to make plans for the next night, so Jon asks Odie for the black book. Odie refuses, and soon Jon is digging up the yard looking for it.
