TV.com summary |
The Berenstain Bears is a 2003 animated television series based on Stan and Jan Berenstain's Berenstain Bears children's book series.
The show was produced by Agogo Entertainment and the Canadian animation company Nelvana for the PBS Kids Channel. The show featured very simple and limited animation, and aired from 2003 to 2005. Eighty 15 minute episodes were produced, but it's still currently airing in syndication. Not all of the episodes were based on Berenstain Bears books, though most books got their own episodes. One complaint associated with the 1985 animated series was that Papa Bear had often acted in an antagonistic manner; doing such things as conspiring to steal honey from talking bees or catch a talking catfish which Brother and Sister were friendly with. Many fans of the books felt that although Papa did occasionally act goofy in the books, the 1985 series was making him appear way too self-centered for the sake of creating a "villain". The 2003 series focused almost solely on the stories and had Papa in much more of a role as a proper father figure, usually offering helpful advice or commending Brother when he helped out Sister Bear, though Papa would still do some stupid things throughout the series.
