The Beltway Boys is an internationally syndicated American weekly television show. The title refers to the Capital Beltway — the circumferential freeway surrounding Washington, D.C. (see Inside the Beltway) — and to the two journalists who host the show: Mort Kondracke and Fred Barnes. Airing initially in the United States on Saturday evenings at 6:00 pm ET on the Fox News Channel, the program is a weekly digest and discussion of political issues. The show is taped in Fox News' Washington studios on Friday.
Typically, the program begins with three primary topics ("Hot Stories") that Kondracke and Barnes discuss at length. It then looks at newsworthy events in the political lives of national leaders in its "Ups and Downs" segment, characterizing the events as positive for the individual (up) or negative (down).
[edit] Accusations of bias
Liberal commentators and some Democrats have complained that the show represents a biased view against Democrats and the political left in favor of Republicans and the political right, pointing to the hosts' leanings.[1] Fred Barnes is considered a religious and conservative Republican, while Mort Kondracke is considered a moderate independent, similar to the weeknight debate show Hannity and Colmes, against which similar concerns have been raised.[citation needed] Others dispute this view of deliberate bias and recommend that viewers watch these shows at least a few times and make up their own minds.
