The Beiderbecke Trilogy
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Beiderbecke Trilogy is a collection of three short television series produced in the mid 1980s.
In 1981, Yorkshire TV commissioned creator/writer Alan Plater to produce an off beat series drama series, and delivered Get Lost!, a 4 part mini series, each episode of approximate 50 minutes duration, and featuring the characters Neville Keaton (played by Alun Armstrong) and Judy Threadgold (played by Bridget Turner).
The series was moderately successful, and when commissioned to develop a sequel, cast unavailability resulted in Alan Plater reworking the premise, delivering The Beiderbecke Affair (1985), The Beiderbecke Tapes (1987) and The Beiderbecke Connection (1988). The reworked stories featured laconic Geordie Trevor Chaplin (played by James Bolam) who teaches woodwork (but whose CV includes enjoying football and listening to jazz), whilst Jill Swinburne (played by Barbara Flynn) teaches English, and is a political activist who wants to save the planet. Collectively, the three series form The Beiderbecke Trilogy.
