The Ballad of Lost C'Mell is a science fiction short story by Cordwainer Smith. It was first published in October of 1962 in Galaxy Magazine, since reprinted in several compilations and omnibus editions.
The central character, C'Mell, is an anthropomorphic cat-woman. The plot largely follows her attempts to strengthen a rebellion against the central government of humanity, the Instrumentality of Mankind.[1]
