The Ascendants of Estorea is a fantasy novel duology by James Barclay.
The first novel in the duology, Cry Of The Newborn, was released on October 20, 2005. The second book, A Shout For The Dead, was released in the UK on January 4th 2007.
His books Noonshade, Nightchild, Elfsorrow, Shadowheart and Demonstorm have been widely recommended since the first, Dawnthief, was published in 1999.[1]

Overall the duology impressed reviewers, showing a progression in Barclay's work since The Legends of the Raven.[2] There were however some fans who felt that this most recent effort was not of the same quality as the Raven series. [3]
