The Arts Institute at Bournemouth, established in 1885 as a specialist institute, is now a leading university sector institution offering high quality specialist education in arts, design and media across the creative industries. It encourages curiosity, risk-taking and adventure in exploring and pushing subject knowledge and its boundaries. The Arts Institute provides staff and students with a well resourced environment in which to practise to the highest professional standards.
The Institute is situated between Bournemouth and Poole in Dorset on the South Coast of England in the UK. Dorset is a county of outstanding natural beauty, providing a unique location for creative work. It boasts miles of sandy beaches, the rolling Purbeck Hills, Poole Harbour and opportunity for a wealth of water sports. Bournemouth has a large cosmopolitan student population and one of the most vibrant club scenes outside London.
The results of the 2007 National Student Survey confirmed the Institute’s status as one of the top specialists in the UK; student satisfaction was extremely high and excellent ratings were given to quality of courses, assessment and feedback, personal development, learning resources, academic support and teaching.
In 2006 the Bournemouth Screen Academy was launched as a joint venture between the Arts Institute at Bournemouth and Bournemouth University Media School and recognised as ‘Centre of Excellence’ in film education and training, one of only seven such institutions in the UK. In 2007 it became a Skillset Screen and Media Academy as one of Britain 's key centres for filmmaking. Its Film Production BA endures an international reputation for excellence and it's graduates regularly win prestigious national and international awards and consistently go on to work successfully within the film industry in the UK and internationally.
