The Arlington Institute (aka "TAI") is a 501(c)(3) non-profit think tank specializing in predictive modeling of future events, that is, futures studies. Founded in 1989 by John L. Petersen in Arlington, Virginia, TAI (TAI) is a futurist think tank dedicated to facilitating a prosperous global transition. TAI believes that major scientific, technological, social, demographic, and environmental forces are driving an epic global transition, the likes of which our species has never before experienced.
TAI believes society, science, ecology, and commerce are converging at the intersection of danger and opportunity. TAI argues that the issues that we are now confronting are a direct product of how we now live and think. As transition pioneers, TAI hopes to discover the early indicators of the transition and provide leadership toward reaching the new world. The Arlington Institute is currently building an interactive web portal called The World's Biggest Problems. This site will allow experts and amateurs alike to collaborate on finding solutions to problems such as economic crisis, species extinction, peak oil, climate change, and water scarcity. They also have plans to build a web portal that collects dreams and intuitions in order to scan them and search for patterns.
Recent Projects Include:
- Future Foresight Forum: A six-month project designed to bring together a small group of thinkers to develop a “strategy for the future of humanity” – a vision of what a newly evolving world might look like and how it might evolve.
- The World’s Biggest Problems: A web portal that provides a single location for understanding the most significant global problems that appear intractable.
- WHETHEReport: A web portal that collects intuitions and dreams from individuals around the world and uses advanced knowledge technology to identify common patterns within the submitted narratives that can be related to potential future events. This project anticipates tapping the global collective unconsciousness to sense early indications of impending perturbations of great significance.
- FUTUREdition: TAI's internationally heralded newsletter, published fortnightly, which chronicles current emerging events which have significant potential for shaping the future.
- TAI Presents: A speaker series that showcases thinkers on subjects related to the emerging future.
