The Archives Vol. 01 1963-1972 is a forthcoming box set by Neil Young. It is the first of several in the Archives series, which will eventually chronicle the artist's entire career. According to the Reprise Records website, this first volume will consist of 8 CDs, 2 DVDs and a 150 page book. However, it was recently announced that the box will not be released on CD but only on DVD-Video and Blu-ray in order to present the audio in high resolution with accompanying visual documentation.
The box has been scheduled for release several times since at least 1999.[1] It was most recently scheduled to be released on February 18, 2008,[2] however, once again this release date passed with no new date yet announced.
The box will feature rare and unreleased material from the first decade of Young's career, spanning his time with The Squires, Buffalo Springfield, Crosby Stills Nash & Young and his first several solo albums. The release will be followed by other box sets covering other stages of his career. The box set will be accompanied by individual concert releases, one of which is known to be of the 1968 Riverboat performances.
