[edit] Fictional Character Biography
[edit] Origin
John Miller was a nerdy high school student who was bullied and picked on often. One day, while carefully observing a colony of ants, a group of bullies shoved him onto the ant hill he was observing. As the ants began to swarm over him, he was struck by a bolt of Energy X, which imbued him with ant-like powers. As he moved through the city, experimenting with his new found powers, he noticed the same group of thugs entering a local candy store with the intent of robbing and vandalizing the store. Tying a scarf around his face to conceal his identity, Miller leaped through the entrance of the store and quickly dispatched the hooligans. From that day forward John Miller donned a superhero identity and vowed to use his new powers to defeat those who would prey on the weak as: The Ant.
[edit] Joining Freedom Force
The Ant was initially a foe of Freedom Force, albeit not of his own free will. The villainous Shadow used powerful mind control drugs to keep the Ant under her control. She used him and his Energy X infused giant ants to attack Patriot City. The Ant harassed Freedom Force numerous times as the made their way through the tunnels leading to Shadow's underground lair. Finally, the heroes were able to capture The Ant and free him from Shadow's mind control. Free from her control, he immediately joined the team and lead them to her secret lair and helped them put an end to her evil schemes.
[edit] Powers
The Ant has superhuman abilities that mimic his insect namesake. The Ant has super strength that allows him to lift over 10 times his own body weight, as well as superhuman agility and reflexes. He has the ability to adhere to vertical surfaces and can burrow into and tunnel through the ground like an Ant. He also has the ability to communicate with and control both normal ants and the Energy X exposed giant ants.
The Ant has also created acid grenades for himself to hurl at his enemies. The Ant has also displayed the ability to generate an ultrasonic squeal that stuns and disorients those around him, but it is unclear if he generates this sound naturally or if it is projected from his special goggles/antenna visor.
[edit] Possible allusions
The Ant serves as the Freedom Force version of Spider-Man. Both have similar origins as nerdy teenage bookworms with insect based powers, and both display the same wisecracking personality while donning their super identities.
