The Allied Schools

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Allied Schools is a group of well-known United Kingdom independent schools, originally founded by the Revd. Percy Warrington in the 1920s.

[edit] History

The organisation started with a group of 10 schools in Britain and a girls school in Kenya. The trustees of the schools were then all trustees of the Martyrs' Memorial and Church of England Trust. The schools ran into severe financial difficulties during the depression in the early 1930s. They were rescued by the intervention of the Legal and General Assurance Society. The influence of the Martyrs' Trust was restricted under a new management scheme instituted in 1934, to allow a nomination of only one sixth of the governors of schools. The Legal and General mortgages were finally repaid in 1980. The Allied Schools Council was later set up to further continue this alliance of members schools.
