The Age Classic is a Group One Australian thoroughbred horse race for horses aged 3 years old and over under open weight for age conditions, over a distance of 1200m.
It is held at Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne on the Saturday following the Melbourne Cup. It was run as a Group One for the first time in 2007, taking over the Group One status of the Salinger Stakes, a 1200m handicap run the previous Saturday.

1868 - 1886 held over 6 furlongs (approx. 1200m)
1887 - 1907 held over 7 furlongs (approx. 1400m)
1908 - 1967 held over 8 furlongs (approx. 1600m)
1968 - 1971 held over 7 furlongs
1972 - 1991 held over 1400m
1992 onwards held over 1200m.
1868 – 1978 was a Principal Race
1979 - 2006 Group 2 2007 onwards Group 1
1868 - 1907 the race was known as the ‘Flying Stakes’
1908 - 1996 the race was known as the ‘Linlithgow Stakes’
1997 - 2003 the race was known as the ‘Emirates Classic’
2004 the race was known as the ‘Lexus Classic’
2005 onwards the race has been called ‘The Age Classic’.
