The A Line was a dynamic hockey scoring line who played for the New Jersey Devils. The line was comprised of Jason Arnott, Patrik Elias and Petr Sykora. While their time together was short lived (1999–2002), they were considered one of the best scoring units of their time. Their tremendous play helped galvanize the Devils to their second Stanley Cup Championship against the defending champion Dallas Stars in the 1999–2000 season. Their continued strong play continued into next year helping the Devils all the way back to the finals, only to lose to the Colorado Avalanche in 7 games. The line was broken up at certain times in their run, but was finally ended for good when Arnott was traded to the Dallas Stars in 2002. Sykora would be traded later in the offseason to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. Speculation was that he was traded after refusing to play through a lower body injury in a pivotal playoff game against Carolina in 2002. Elias, as of the 2007–2008 season, is the only remaining member of the line still playing on the Devils.
