Talk:The Thoughts of Emerlist Davjack
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Being a long-time fan of both Nice & Floyd, the assertion that "Cry of Eugene" was an influence on "Careful With That Axe Eugene" intrigued me. So I looked into it.
For, we have that (i) the same name appears in both titles (ii) both are fairly slow and musically understated, and (iii) Davy O'List filled in for Syd Barrett for a short time before Gilmour joined Floyd.
Against, we have that (i) whereas CWTAE is a menacing journey towards a screaming climax where (presumably) the axe mentioned is deployed, CoE seems to be a delicate song abut a young man's unrequited love (hence the reference to "Harlequin & Columbine), (ii) CWTAE had several titles before settling to that by which it is now known, none of which bear any resemblance to its final one and (iii) Davy O'List has never reportedly said that there is an influence, although he might have been expected to be the conduit for one.
