[edit] Elder cvilizations

Anybody have a sourced clue as to the relationship between Elder civs and sublimed? Seems to me that the Elder are just more powerful Sublimed. The Chelgrian sublimed for example didn't seem to be all that scary to the Culture, and they had to act indirectly in their revenge quest. MadMaxDog 23:33, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] In other works?

I remember seeing the term in Revelation Space, saying that during the Dawn War, "some [races] had sublimed, leaving the theater of battle entirely". Is it turning into a standard SF term, like "ansible"? Are there any other authors or writers who have adopted it? --—Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.44.13.236 (talkcontribs) 07:43, 21 February 2007

When saw the first Banks reference to it I instantly knew what it meant, but I can't remember where else I may have seen it (or whether they coined it first). Maybe it's Banks' ability to use the right term in a new context that makes it easy for you to understand the meaning without further definition MaxKnight (talk) 06:53, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
