... have been remarkably precise; might the E. have been moonlighting here? Sfahey 21:09, 11 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] The Czar
Contrary to what the article said (until I deleted it a moment ago), Gene Weingarten has not admited to being the Czar. Here's a note from the Post web site ([1]) that might have been the source for the claim:
Post writer outs SI Czar: In what will almost certainly be called "Stylegate" by unimaginative members of the media, Gene Weingarten has been exposed as the Czar of the Style Invitational, a confidential informant from Washington Post states. In a Live Online chat, the informant, Deep tHroat (DH), then stated to "Bowie, Md.," whose name is derived from the letters in Woodward and Bernstein, that he was aided and abetted the Czar by providing some of the cheap crap that passes for prizes in the weekly feature.
Bowie, Md.: [DH], did you see yesterday's Style Invitional contest? The prize for this week is the board game associated with the film "How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days." I know your cubicle is next to Gene Weingarten's, who frequently finds prizes for the Invitational Czar. Did paramount really send you that game in hopes it would turn your brain to mush BEFORE watching that waste of celluloid?
DH: [blah, blah, blah...] And yes, Gene Weingarten (who is proud of his inability to appreciate any movie that he identifies as a chick flick) sits next to me, and he readily appreciates the junk I send him for his Invitational contests.
Gene Weingarten: I don't see your point at all. I have never denied my connection to the Czar. If you are referring to his calling it "my' contest, well it is. It is your contest, too.

HOLD THE BUS: Read this great 1999 article (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/11/15/AR2005111500459_pf.html), in which Gene states: "I run a reader-participation contest every Sunday in The Post. It is called The Style Invitational."
How much more Out can you get?
[edit] Merge from The Czar of the Style Invitational
I've proposed that the Czar article be merged into this one. My reasons include:
- There's almost nothing in that article that isn't already here.
- The Czar doesn't have an existence independent of the contest.
- The Czar hasn't run the contest for years.
- The Empress article was recently redirected to the Czar.
- The Uncle doesn't have an article of his own either.
All of which strongly suggests that the Czar article should be merged into this one. RossPatterson 18:19, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
- I agree. Merge 'em. --Wspencer11 (talk to me...) 15:03, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
