[edit] Images
Could someone add the promotional picture for season 6 from the HBO website? I don't have the expertise but I like having all the others together here.--Opark 77 22:00, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
- Just added the picture.
User Meco has removed the images from the article as they did not have any fair use rationale - I understand that this is important so that wikipedia can be reproduced freely. However, I added a fair use rationale to the first season poster image and reinserted it. I believe Meco requested a review of the fair use status of the image and a third editor recently took it down again as it was not thought to be fair use. Having taken the time to read the relevant policies and add a rationale I was hoping someone could point out where it fell short of meeting the criteria by addressing the points in my rationale one by one. This would benefit me as a new editor trying to get to grips with fair use of images. --Opark 77 15:06, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
- I'll try and explain. When you added back Image:Sopranos1st.jpg you provided this rationale inline: "FAIR USE of Sopranos1st.jpg: see image description page at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Sopranos1st.jpg for rationale". On that page (the image page) you provided this rationale:
# it is a low resolution copy of a TV show poster; # it does not limit the copyright owner's rights to sell the DVD advertised in any way; # copies could not be used to make illegal copies of the DVD artwork on another DVD; # the article section containing the image is a summary of the plot of the first series, in this instance the image provides a visual indicator of the series discussed; # the picture shows the major characters of the first series giving a visual reminder of the characters discussed in the plot summaries of the article; # the poster illustrates the conflict central to the first series between Tony's two families (blood and crime) as discussed in the timeline
- This is similar to how a rationale is presented for many uses of Fair Use images (a Fair Use image is a copyrighted image that is used through limited provisions in U.S. copyright law). Wikipedia's guideline for applying copyrighted images ("Fair use" images) is outlined at Wikipedia:Fair use (WP:FU). The critical point in this and similar cases often revolve around the requirement that the image be used in a context which contains critical commentary of the image. Being a sub-page of The Sopranos comparable to other sub-pages of television shows that list characters or episodes The Sopranos timeline obviously is not an article that will delve deep into critique of the series which basically is what the fair use provisions require. That is the reason why I removed the image in the first place and why Hetar removed it again after it had been put back into the article with the following explanation: "rm image, might qualify for fu on other articles, but not on this one". The reasons given that the image "illustrates the conflict central to the first series" qualifies as identification but not as critical commentary or discussion. Neither does being a "visual reminder" or the more oblique reason given of being a "visual indicator". __meco 15:56, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Season 5 starts in 2003?
It's always shady, but the first episode starts in the Fall, then in the episode where Adriana dies it's the Fall. Plus AJ is a high school junior in Sentimental Education taking the SATs, then in the later episodes he's a high school senior applying for college.
[edit] Karen, Bobby, and Janice
The timeline should have more mention of this plot thread, including Karen's death and the Janice/Bobby relationship, which is a major part of Season 5.
[edit] Year Error
I have changed the year 1995 to 1997. In Meadowlands (1999), the news reports that Jackie became Acting Boss when DiMeo went away "two years ago".
- I agree with this, as I remember Jackie was kind of acting boss when DiMeo was arrested in late 1995 and then became official when DiMeo went to prison in 1997.--Opark 77 22:00, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Sal (Pussy)
I'm not sure the episode title from the top of my head but in a flashback to a previous christmas it's revealed Pussy was working with the FBI as far back as 1995. Not editing until I get confirmation on this. 24.247.219.140 C.M.
- This has been a disputed point before. Personally I think the episode showed that Tony suspected Pussy as far back as 1995. The evidence for his start time is put into question when Skip Lipari tells him he's been working with them for two years in season 2 (2000) - therefore making his start 1998. --Opark 77 22:15, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Something to do with A.J.'s attempt on Junior?
Article states: "A.J. is fired from Blockbuster. Tony finally puts his foot down and demands that A.J. take a construction job, using a bit of intimidation to get the point across."
Didn't Tony scold A.J. in the parking lot after A.J. was released from police custody for attempt on Junior?--Raymm 13:11, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Chronology Errors?
Should we add a section on chronological errors within the series, or does that warrant a separate article? Season 6 Part 1 is rife with timeline errors relative to whether the depicted events are taking place in 2005 or 2006 (Tony is referred to as being 46 when he's shot by Junior, but the scene almost certainly takes place prior to his August birthday; we see Tony reading a copy of the Star-Ledger with the headline "The Corzine Era Begins" in a scene taking place around Thanksgiving when Jon Corzine was sworn in as governor of NJ in January 2006, etc.).
[edit] Season 6B ends in 2007?
I took out the reference to 2007 for Season 6B as the final episode suggests it takes place around Christmas 2006, so the last scene would be occurring in early 2007. Comments?
I agree with prior postings that DCHASE made some errors...but I would have to disagree with the last episode ending in early 2007. If you assume season 6a starts in 2006, ends with Christmas 2006. Then the series would have picked up again in the summer 2007(Tony's birthday in the Adirondacks. Continued through the fall and winter (pool was winterized). So this would make the end early 2008. I would say season 6b starts in 2007 and continues to 2008. If anyone disagrees....please discuss. Richie.miceli (talk) 21:05, 20 November 2007 (UTC)rmiceli
