Selling amount

Someone editted the first paragraph and said that over 200 million units had been sold worldwide. This is clearly not the case and I have since rectified this to what was previously stated (13 million) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by XenoX101 (talkcontribs) 21:21, August 22, 2007 (UTC).

Nevermind, as soon as I wrote this someone already changed. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by XenoX101 (talkcontribs) 21:23, August 22, 2007 (UTC).

Fansites

I think some more "fansites" should be listed.

  • MTS2 the biggest custom contents and mods site for TS2.
  • MATY especially, as this place offers critical bugfixes and mods for TS2.
  • Insimenator which hosts one of the most productive modding communities
  • Sims 2 Workshop another productive modding community

Thoughts? -- Jordi· 08:22, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

  • No. They add nothing to the article, and we already have the 2 biggest fansites listed, as well as a list to a site which lists pretty much every other fansite. Adding additional sites does not benefit the article in anyway.--Crossmr 14:06, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
Neither do the two listed at the moment. By your logic we should list none. Your resource site (dmoz) does not list more than 20 such fansites by the way, with none of the trhee above even present. -- Jordi· 15:46, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
As far as I'm aware the official site already has a directory for fan sites. --Mig (Talk) 16:45, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
  • The number of fansites should be limited to one or two per WP:EL. (Though EL's text has changed recently.) If this becomes an issue, then all fansites should be removed and we should link to a third party link aggregation site like DMOZ. --Kunzite 19:54, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
  • How can you say that the two listed sites are the biggest? Why not a list of sites that have custom content downloads for the game? That would actually contribute to the article. The one i think of is TheSimsResource (the biggest costom content archive of all) but there are other good custom content sites out there as well -- CJNE 12:46, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Screenshot

I added a screenshot to the article, and removed the request for same on this talk page. Jerry lavoie 20:36, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

I removed the screenshot. Not only was it in a really bad position its extremely old and out of date. The interface doesn't look anything like that anymore. That must be a pre-release promo shot. Its not really informative.--Crossmr 02:22, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Oh, I can fetch one for you in a moment! I've got bodyshop screens too, do we want those? Kuronue 14:32, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

There is a screenshot of a child becoming a teen, do you still want another? I added a bodyshop shot. Kuronue 14:47, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
Just look through the article and if you see someplace that is particularly baren of images, add an appropriate one. The article could really use more. — Frecklefoot | Talk 17:15, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

Do you think it would be appropriate to add a screenshot of a sim doing homework for the lifestyle section? I think it would reflect the normalities that sims go through, but if not, let me know what we should put there.ElGenius 17:51, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Unnecessary Information

Removed unesssecary information - stop editing back please. It is blatantly obvious by 74.104.202.163

^ And some anonymous editor keeps removing the completely relevant illustration with information of the homosexual couple. Sims can BE gay and OR straight. Furthermore, this anonymous editor does not realize that my notes underneath the photo is the FIRST mention of this fact in the entire article. Stop removing it please. ResurgamII 16:06, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
^ and someone keeps adding COMPLETELY irrelevant info. THE SIMS 2 is NOT a game about sexuality, please create another TS2 branch if you really want to split heads over TS2 genes and whatnot. We will keep removing it until you add it in a branch off of this article (like a new page specifically for Sims genes FTW) or have some actual info we can use (What sort of cheats can you use? What are these 'recolors'? etc... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.91.50.77 (talk) 16:31, 14 February 2007 (UTC).

^ Irrelevant info? Obviously in your opinion. Sexuality is a major theme in Sims as it tries to reflect real world daily life. And who's "we"? There's only you doing the removing. ResurgamII 22:38, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

Sims does follow a sex theme, but it is NOT a major theme. The main theme is growing up, there is much more to like then sex, such as getting a job, making money, and making friends. But it should be mentioned in the article somewhere. Ledgo (talk) 16:45, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
I don't think that cheats should be included in the game. There are sites for that, perhaps an external link would be more appropriate. And I second the vote that it is important to list sexuality in the game so that people researching the product know that it mirrors real life. Stop removing stuff that makes sense; there are plenty of other articles that need that, but this is not one of them.

I don't think it's a cheat. I have a cheat that puts the whole game in a dedbug mode- the kind they use for testing the game, I think. One of the special things you can do with this cheat is make them tell you their autonomous gender preference- in other words, what gender they respond romanticallly with. So I think it's some secret that is embedded in the game you have to work out yourself- going back to the point made earlier about how it reflects daily life. And if you didn't know anything about the game it would be useful to know that the makers aren't homophobic (o.k, that's an exaggeration. I mean rigid towards sexuality.).ElGenius 17:47, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

It's part of the character file; you can see it with tools like SimPE, a number of hacks, or debug mode. It affects who they are attracted to (with NL) and the threshold at which they will accept romantic interactions; while it takes external tools to SEE it, it's coded in to the base game. Grilled Cheese Aspiration?

Isn't there an aspiration that's like a glitch or an easteregg in the game called grilled cheese aspiration that comes with Nightlife? Let me know! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.142.130.49 (talk) 00:09, 6 February 2007 (UTC).

That aspiration does come with Nightlife. [1]. It is mentioned in the Nightlife article. --Hintha 04:24, 18 February 2007 (UTC)Its not a glitch. If you stick you head in the renuyu senso orb in green aspiration you get the grilled cheese aspiration.
Where's the wikipedia page about the asperation? I can't find it in a search. I saw it before, and ive forgotten the basic asperation rewards ect. --Coolspanner 15:07, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
It won't be on WP. Look on GameFAQs or something like that for that info. ALTON .ıl 03:36, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

I don't think it comes only with nightlife. It might do, but I have sims Uni. I opened the cheat window and scrolled up for a bit and it said something about a error with griled cheese, and a error with pleasur seeker. What does the grilled cheese aspiration do, anyway? Does it make all the wants mean you want grilled cheese? ElGenius 17:39, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

  • Its an annoying one, but super easy to fufill. But make sure whoever has it isn't a good chef, because they won't cook anything else. :) CuteinQuueens 13:36, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
  • The Grilled Cheese aspiriation basically changes your sims long term goals. They'll still pursue job promotions and such, it's just you'll see alot of more things involving them eating grilled cheese. I believe their life goal changes to eating a certain amount as well, but I am not sure on that. To put it short, like the other ones, they will still see the generic "Wants a career in, wants to buy this, talk to this person" but they will see more special goals with... Grilled Cheese. Ledgo (talk) 16:27, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

Wikibooks Gameguides

I've noticed that the Sims related articles tend to get a level of detail in them that goes well beyond that of an encyclopedia article and delves into the realm of game guides. To that end I've created a page over at wikibooks which takes that kind of material. Wikipedia already includes a template: Template:Wikibooks for handling this. If you find any material which reaches this level, feel free to transwiki it there and leave a note for the person who added it that that is where its gone and that that type of material is more appropriate there. Any article that you transwiki material off of, should have a template added to it. I've already added the template to the Seasons article and I'm going to go through and clean out the excessive detail.--Crossmr 21:27, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

If anyone needs help in setting up these templates on various articles feel free to ask, I think I've gotten the hang of it.--Crossmr 21:42, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
I've completed transwikiing University, Nightlife and Seasons. Pets and Open for business still need to be done, as well as the base game. Someone may also want to have a look at the article on Sim (Maxis Sim games) as there has been some concern that that article as well is slipping into minutia and trivia.--Crossmr 23:00, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

I suppose Uni has two disc cos it was the first expansion pack--Wwjd333 19:37, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

Similarity between Sims 1 and 2 expansions?

Did anybody else notice that the Sims 2 expansion sets mostly mirror those of the predecessor as far as concepts go? There's a downtown, pets, etc.

Does this deserve a special mention? Other games sometimes tend to incorporate the features added in expansion sets for predecessors in sequels, so I was a bit surprised to see that pets were already added in a The Sims expansion before The Sims 2 Pets was conceived.

Regardless, the article seems to fail to mention that the game mechanics introduced in expansion sets are cumulative in newer releases: one expansion adds a mechanic, the next one includes that mechanic and adds more stuff. This can lead to many "disabled features" if one does not purchase the expansions in order, e.g. a disabled "Downtown" and "Campus" button as well as an non-selectable but fully implemented Pleasure aspiration if only OFB and the base game are installed (which, of course, acts as another incentive to buy earlier expansions: get rid of all those placeholders). — Ashmodai (talk · contribs) 12:08, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

It would be original research to draw a conclusion like that. Unless you can find a reliable source which is speculating on this. I have heard that theory several times, but only in unreliable places like forums and blogs.--Crossmr 17:56, 10 March 2007 (UTC)OFB and University are original.
Nightlife and Pets are the only remakes of Sims 1 EPs so far. University, Open for Business, and Seasons are all new. 24.254.47.90 20:39, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
I think Maxis stated before that every other expansion pack will be a "remake" of a The Sims 1 expansion pack. I'm using the quotation marks because the most direct evidence I've personally seen is a Maxoid saying the new expansion packs are inspired by older ones. Nightlife was inspired by Hot Date (stated on IGN.com), Pets by Unleashed, and Bon Voyage by Vacation. --Funnykidrian 01:26, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

Will a magic one be made for the Sims2? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.34.88.155 (talk) 21:02, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

Is it important? Is it encyclopedic? No.--A Person With A Listening Problem 11:58, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
If you made a spin-off article that includes similarities between the first and second game, sure. But I am sure you don't need to mention all these expansions are remakes. Me and my mom figured that, we're pretty sure once the magic expansion is made, it will end up like sims 1 and end in that expansion, and all further work on Sims 3 if it is not a cancelled project. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ledgo (talkcontribs) 16:31, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

"Girls Stuff" Overruns Custom content hosts

Should this be added to the article? girls aged about 14 - 15 always adding custom content that really makes it outnumber male creators stuff. i play the game, im male, but girls are always uploading girly sims, i cant find anything on download pages because of it. should we send a warning out to these girls obsessively uploading elves and silky skintones? --Coolspanner 02:34, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Controversy Section

Now, I am no Sims 2 advocate, but, I feel this section is not needed. It is one claim that was immediatly addressed. It's actually quite funny. I'm just saying we might want to remove it.

I dunno. it was actually a hoax, it was blogged... it was entertaining so, keep it. --Coolspanner 21:34, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Edit

Have edited in plot, where is says that the game "hints that it is set 20 years after the original sim games" as it doesnt hint, but outright says that Pleasantview is Oldtown twenty five years later. Would it be posiible to have a stub article on each neighbourhood perhaps too —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.153.105.94 (talk) 14:10, April 11, 2007

What? --Coolspanner 23:59, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Actually, yes I remember it says that.
Do not create articles on each neighborhood; that is unnecessary information. ALTON .ıl 04:16, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
Wait, why is it unnecessary? Its still info that people want to know about. --Coolspanner 02:31, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
Are you sure? Commissioned to write a report about The Sims 2, would you go into detail about its gameplay and cultural references? I should hope your assignment would focus much more on the History and Impact of the game. I'm disappointed I can't add my own conjectures about The Sims 2 plot, but it's basically info that doesn't belong here. Look at The Legend of Zelda for example; compare the Gameplay section to History section size. ALTON .ıl 03:34, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

It says in the bio: "It's been twenty five years..."

Warning to all editors

Stop adding game guide material. Stop adding expansion pack info to the prose. Stop adding speculation. The next person to do so will be warned. ALTON .ıl 00:07, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

Unfortunately this is a constant issue. The hundreds upon thousands of fan sites out there just don't seem to be enough to satisfy the need to disseminate trivia about The Sims and its gameplay features. As well, the slightest hint of speculation is enough to spur edits on Wikipedia, EP after EP. I honestly don't think it will ever stop, nor do I have a solution for dealing with it unfortunately. Nothing permanent anyway. We can continue to redirect and have articles deleted, but each time it will happen again.--Crossmr 23:25, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
A bit futile isn't it, guys? I doesn't take much effort to revert vandalism anyway. --Coolspanner 11:42, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
It's my own effort, and it's just as easy to warn every single one. ALTON .ıl 00:57, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
What about all the people that edit without looking at the talk page first? They won't see the warning. Pnkrockr 01:05, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
Look, I'm aware it's impossible to catch every person vandalizing Wiki at every moment, but I'll have the justification here when someone decides to RfC me. We've already tried protecting it, and they don't think it's "severe enough" to keep even semi-protected. Sometimes that's not the right criteria to judge whether a page should be or not. ALTON .ıl 04:25, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

I think there should be a system where the creator of the page has to say yes or no to an edit before it is shown to the world. Would that maybe keep vandalism levels down?ElGenius 17:56, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Would violate WP:OWN. What if they did that on controversial articles? Then that person's bias would never go away. Kuronue | Talk 20:12, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Shouldn't suff mentioned here that was not released in the base game be removed such as young adults, Pleasure and Grilled Cheese Aspirations, etc.? Someone started a page for The Sims 2 Deluxe, and I'm thinking if it would be a good idea to make a new page for the various editions of The Sims 2 released (we can move the existing Holiday Edition content from the Stuff Packs page while leaving the Happy Holiday Stuff, which is an actual Stuff Pack, intact). This page would be similar to the Stuff Packs page wherein it contains information on the numerous editions released (instead of making a new page for each edition). Anyone agree with me on this? --Funnykidrian 04:09, 12 June 2007 (UTC) Im not sure, if the article on sims 2 deluxe is a long enough page to be considered an article in its own right and/or the stuff packs page gets too long, Ω§|Blacksmith2 05:09, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Body Shop picture has a debateable comment

"The Sims 2 Bodyshop allows more customization of facial features than the Create-A-Sim feature within the game itself." I don't agree with this, and I already made a beginners mistake with the minor edit thing, so I want to see what you think. Simsarmy1 22:29, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

It does, though; it has about twice as many sliders as CAS. Have you compared the two lately? I can't, for instance, edit the size of the lower lip in CAS, but I can in bodyshop. Kuronue 02:56, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

I still disagree, it’s just a different format, you can end up with the same Sims using the internal Create-A-Sim. The sliders have just been split into varying levels of detail, plus you can edit the lower lip in CAS. Simsarmy1 11:30, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

I don't think you can edit ears in the actual game, though. IIRC, I had to use Bodyshop to get pointed ears (for elves). Ophois 01:22, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

You know, when removing half the article, it's customary to make a note on the talk page detailing your reasons for doing so. people are encouraged to be bold and don't need to discuss every change made to the article (unless there is question raised on it, or likely to be question on it). If you're talking about me, which I suspect, deletion here is mainly caused out of frustration. Responding to your summary questioning my article pruning, each one of these edits are adding something "just as important" to the section. It's hard to judge what belongs in the section, but the larger the mob grows, the more inclined members are to be more rowdy and overstep boundaries. ALTON .ıl 00:19, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Well, yes, you're free to be bold, but it's common courtesy to let someone know why you felt half the article needed to be removed. It sets a precedent, see? I understand entirely why the page was pruned, and agree that it needed pruning, but I wouldn't want to see half the page that belongs there removed without a note on the talk page, so I shouldn't be condoning removing that much without at least saying something after the fact. But in any case, it's fine, just a little verbal slap on the wrist, I'm not really upset. Kuronue 04:01, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

List of all pre made neighbourhoods

I once saw a list on here with all pre made sim families and neighbourhoods although this has been removed. These 'areas' in the game play in importent part in game play and there is little information about any pre made families on official websites. I atempted to start a page listing all areas in The Sims 2 (Pleasent View, Bluewater ect) all though this was removed before I had the chance to update it.
Is there any reason why it was removed and why there is no information on these neighbourhoods or pre-made families?

Because the information isn't really encyclopedic. We're not a gameplay guide, or a guide to the game. That kind of thing is suited to fansites unless there is something really notable about them outside the community.--Crossmr 18:35, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
There are only 3 premade neighbour hoods, 3 prem, ade unis, (if you have uni) not sure about NL , Blue water is a kind of sub neighbour hood, as you can have houses there, not sure about seasons, and pets has no new area.Blacksmith2 talk 08:29, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

The article states that there have been six packs released and lists them (including Bon Voyage, Sept 4th in the US). Then it goes on to say that another has been announced. Is this true, or did someone forget to edit that part out? I didn't want to remove it without knowing for sure, but I haven't heard anything on this, so I put a fact tag on it. Bon Voyage came with an insert announcing the next expansion pack to be "Hobbies" Kuronue | Talk 23:17, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Someone has added that Will Wright announced the next pack - I believe this to be untrue. In any case it lacks citation. Sorry If I did this (talk page) wrong. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.155.143.185 (talk) 12:32, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Looking at the Maxis site, Hobbies is the next expansion, probrably similar to pets by simpley adding new features, but not adding any neighborhoods. But this one does look promising. Ledgo (talk) 16:36, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

It's already been announced with the name "Free Time"--Crossmr (talk) 17:33, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

What about all the music videos, etc.?

One very fast-growing part of Sims fan culture is the fact skillful Sim-players are able to create mods, etc. that allow them to create music videos or recreate TV shows, etc. using the Sims. Look on Youtube and you'll see this. In fact there's a clip making the rounds that appears to be based upon a Simlish recording by Lily Allen. I've also seen episodes of Doctor Who done in Sims-style and there was a widely-circulated music video featuring Sims altered to look like characters from Star Trek: The Next Generation ("The Picard Song"). I think this should be included here. 68.146.41.232 17:58, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

"The graphics is..."?

"Compared to The Sims, the graphics of The Sims 2 is much more enhanced." I don't know if I'm right on this but it's why I'm asking. Isn't "graphics" a plural noun? I think "...the graphics of The Sims 2 are much more enhanced." would be the correct way to say it. Let me know what you think please. ·:RedAugust 16:49, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Yes, it's plural. — Frecklefσσt | Talk 17:12, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Recent changes to the Expansion Pack listings

I like to know why every other time I visit this article to show my friends; it is always different from the last time I was here. I like to know why modifications to the listings are continously being changed to suit certian people? Any reasons on this bias take? --HotDice 07:46, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

I don't know, they seem to feel the need to type every secret they find into the features box. I think they're stupid. --Coolspanner 21:56, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
Simple, this is a wiki. The Sims 2 is a very popular game, and therefore this article is widely viewed. People stumble upon it, decide to change it. It's that simple. — Frecklefσσt | Talk 22:53, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

I've said this several times already, this article needs to be locked. It must be one of the most vandalized articles in all of Wikipedia. 72.49.203.96 08:05, 26 September 2007 (UTC) Joshua

Yup, lock the damn article. --Coolspanner 22:34, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

This article should be protected

I looked at the edit history and it seemed that it has been vandalized alot today. This article is one of the most vandalised on Wikipedia, protect it before it gets even more vandalized! --71.215.158.128 04:17, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Looks like its a target today for some vandals. Should be protected for the time being. — Frecklefσσt | Talk 16:45, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Heck, yeah. I love, love, love the Sims 2. I hate those frammed up vandiliazers! Always protecting, CuteinQuueens 13:45, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

Frequent Vandalism by Pentiumman

This guy keeps adding some fake box shot to the article constantly vandalizing it. So someone should either put vandalizing prevention protection on this article or ban that user from accessing and editing this article. Thanks . -Vlad 16:47, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

I reverted back the article to the one from 10/24/07. Please protect this page, or ban the guy that keeps doing this. There is too much vandalism going on this page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Vlad788 (talkcontribs) 16:56, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

I really hate him. WikiVands....*chokes them* Grrrrr..... —Preceding unsigned comment added by CuteinQuueens (talkcontribs) 13:46, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

The vandalism was so rampant that some valuable material was lost, like the line from the expansions table that I restored yesterday. Editors should closely examine the article to see if any other material was lost. — Frecklefσσt | Talk 12:58, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

Mrs. Crumplebottom

She should be added to the nightlife NPCs, as she is the annoying old lady who despises PDAs brought back from the original sims, Hot Date. She is listed in all FAQs as an NPC, and an important one at that. 67.171.13.90 (talk) 04:47, 23 December 2007 (UTC)Guest

The Sims Carnival

A few Pogo games using The Sims Carnival brand are coming out soon. Shall we start up new articles about them and link them to the relevant sections? --Funnykidrian (talk) 22:08, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

Only if they gain any notability on their own. Notability isn't necessarily inherited just because the parent game or company is notable.--Crossmr (talk) 03:42, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

List of The Sims to neighbourhoods

Can someone please tell me why this article keeps getting deleted? I have made a number of requests that if anyone has a problem with it then discuss it! As it has once again been deleted without any reason it will be uploaded again!

Remember, wikipedia is for everyone! Some people find certain articles more usefore and encyclopedic than others and if everyone deleted every article they thought wasnt encyclopedic then there will be no wikipedia left!

Anyone wish to delete 'list of The Sims 2 neighbourhoods' again then at least discuss it first! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Smoogie7 (talkcontribs) 09:08, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

if you're content has been deleted or redirected then seek to find out why. Contact the editor who has done it. Recreating this content in a new article is against policies and guidelines.--Crossmr (talk) 17:22, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Genie

It seems that the genie is no more "the creature" for the FreeTime Expansion than Mrs. Crumplebottom was for Nightlife. He's apparently an NPC, not something your sims can turn into like the previous creatures (werewolf, vampire, plantsim, zombie) and not playable like the robots or bigfoots either. I suggest that the expansion chart be modified so that the "creature" column says "none" for FreeTime. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.230.37.206 (talk) 19:13, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Archive?

I believe an archive is due. Someone want to do it? Zeroxysm (talk) 15:36, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

No Creature?

What do you mean there is no new creature in free time? Thats a rip. 69.202.119.212 (talk) 14:59, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
