Talk:The Sims 2: Open for Business
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] Music
The wikipedia pages says that major bands from the '80s remixed a song, etc. But The Epoxies aren't from the '80s. The Epoxies were formed in 2000 and are still around. Someone needs to re-word that section.
[edit] Removed edit as OR
I've moved the following edit to the talk page as OR until it can be corroborated.
- Update (11/15/05):In an exclusive interview with Maxis we were told this:"The Sims 2: Open for Business is set to be released in early January 2006. You will be able to own a pet shop(and yes, you can own pets too), operate many other kinds of businesses from run down family markets to huge malls to pawn shops, werewolves are also going to be included with Open fo Business(you will be normal during the day, but turn into a furry creature at night)."
--Elliskev 02:56, 17 November 2005 (UTC)
That has not been confirmed and it is a lie because they said you cannot have half of those things.
- Agreed-- wishful thinking on someone's part. I wouldn't rule out those additions in a future expansion pack, but by now if OFB had pets and werewolves Maxis would have told the world about it. ekedolphin 08:08, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Release Date
on the article for the origional Sims 2, it states that the release date for this game is feb 28 - march 2, so, i think we need some more info there.
another thing...on several sites that sell this game, it states that the release date is tomorrow, the 28th. im thinking that we should get some more info about the dates so we can have the correct info for others. Osmo250 00:09, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
- Even now that it has come out, there's some disagreement over the release date. I got my copy on March 1, but the article states that the release date wasn't until today, March 3. For that matter, on a Sims 2 forum I frequent, some people weren't able to get it until the 2nd or 3rd. ekedolphin 19:39, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

- its funny, cause about 2hrs after posting this i got my copy, so i think there was some bad communication petween the suppliers and peopleOsmo250 17:13, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] "Have Sex" vs. WooHoo
It may seem like a minor point, but, in the game, Sims are technically incapable of having sex. Obviously, there's very little difference between the two, as they can WooHoo to have a baby, but it's a disctinction worth noting.
As such, the sentence "Sims can also have sex in elevators..." -- found under Architecture -- is slightly inaccurate, or at least misleading.
The point being, if Sims were allowed to "have sex" in the game, it would not be a Teen game, but, rather, an Adults Only game, as demonstrated by the Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Hot Coffee debacle.
Therefore, because it is a Teen game, all they really do is WooHoo, whatever "WooHoo" might be.

[edit] POV
The following statement is both outdated and POV:
Open for Business will add a lot to each of the different modes of the Sims gameplay, as well as two new music genres.
The article's description section is straight off the cover, and obviously POV. Computerjoe's talk 10:04, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
im sorry, but how is this article POV? Osmo250 17:33, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not really seeing the POV issue here either - I'm removing the tag. Robovski 01:17, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Cleanup
The article is written as an upcoming video game, it is now released. It requires cleanup. Computerjoe's talk 10:06, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
Please also help my fix the language used in this article. As a rule, the passive voice should be replaced by the active voice, especially since this article contains a lot of the former. Furthermore, we need to fix up its use of the second person ("you"), rather than the third person (in this case, "the player"). RandyWang 12:53, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
- I've spent a few hours fixing the article's use of the future tense, second person and passive voice, as well as fixing some other minor points (such as organisation) where necessary. I can't see any major reason why this article still requires the Cleanup tag, so I've removed it for now. RandyWang 01:18, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Bugs
Two of these "bugs" are not actual bugs -
- You cannot save on a community lot you do not own.
- Sims will keep waking up if music, the TV, the pinball machine, the burglar/smoke alarm, and the alarm clock among others is turned on.
Can someone please remove these?
- I will, since I am doing other edits anyway - but you do know that anyone can make a change? Robovski 01:17, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Condensing (aka, This Page Is One Big Freakin' List)
While I'm very impressed at just how much information this page contains, I wonder if we can't do something about the fact that it's almost entirely contained in lists. I'm not an anti-list nut, but in this case I believe the article's readability and overall quality have been hurt by having three quarters of its content organised in this way. Oh, and it looks bloody lazy. :)
Since simply removing all that juicy information seems pretty excessive, I propose we spend some time seriously condensing the points we do have to reduce the amount of text that's contained in lists - this could be done in conjunction with moving some of the points into other parts of the article as appropriate (EDIT: and by this, I mean prose that would take a more general look at the new features and their signifigance).
So:
- Does anybody agree with my concern? And its logical corollary;
- Wanna help me clean up these lists?
Thanks guys. :) RandyWang 11:09, 25 April 2006 (UTC) EDIT: RandyWang 11:42, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Screenshots
This article lacks screenshots. If anyone has this expansion, please capture some screenshots and add them to the article.

[edit] Explanation
What is a turn on and a turn off? Someone should explain what these are. Bibliomaniac15 02:23, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
These are new features from Nightlife and now Open For Business which adds or removes attractiveness to other Sims, which makes them easier or harder to date. Could be considered a blessing, or a curse, whichever way you spin it. J Assassin 08:09, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Contains elements of tycoon game or economic simulation game?
Should this sentence be changed? "The entire new concept of running businesses is the game's main new feature, and a new direction for The Sims, as it now includes elements of a tycoon game." If you haven't read the definition proposal in Wikiproject Tycoon computer games, the meaning is very debatable. Maybe changing it into "economic simulation game" would be a better choice. Bibliomaniac15 23:28, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Relationships with other expansion packs
Let's make a list of things it can and cannot do. We can add it to the article later if we make it into prose. 1. Pet shops can be built if person has Pets ep. 2. Restaurants can be created without Nightlife. 3. Neighbourhoods can be seen in lots without Nightlife (needs verification) 4. Concrete terrain can be accessed (also needs verification) --80.42.105.233 19:18, 27 September 2006 (UTC) 5. With Nightlife, can create a car lot. 6. With University, home lots or greek houses may also have businesses. Like teens, young adults may own businesses.--FlameFlash 22 October 2006
[edit] Designers' credits were wrong
I took the liberty of correcting the credits on the designers across al the Sims2 products. I was there during the product development, and know them personally. Sorry if this was done improperly.
Clondon00 22:55, 5 January 2007 (UTC)clondon00
- As long as there are reliable sources per WP:V and WP:RS. You've indicated the information is sources from the credits so thats fine. Were it just your word that wouldn't suffice.--Crossmr 04:07, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Clean up
The around the house and architecture sections need some clean up. I've transwiki'd some excessive detail to wikibooks and provided the wikibooks template for it. However these two sections need to be cleaned up into paragraph form and out of list form. the lists themselves can likely be moved to wikibooks, but I don't want to just delete it, because some of those items are still appropriate here.--Crossmr 23:31, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
- Also needs some cleanup for "in-universe" type stuff. For example, the first time "Wants" and "Fears" are mentioned, the article doesn't give the first clue what those might be. I've seen the game played a couple times, so I have a vague idea, but the article should in effect be written around someone that's never played the game, and probably concentrate a little more on the out-of-universe impact of the game rather than a recap of gameplay features. [edit] Cheesecake
The author of the article states that cheesecake does not increase the chances of having twins. After having read the reference and other similar pages, this seems to be incorrect. The actual story seems to be that eating cheesecake while pregnant will ALWAYS result in twins. However, Maxis allegedly only intended cheesecake to increase the chances of twins by 10%-50% (see link below)
In my experience of playing the game, cheesecake has always resulted in twins, whereas if the same sim does not eat cheesecake, she will have a single baby. I would suggest that the cheesecake issue is clarified in the Wikipedia article. Jammycaketin 20:46, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
