[edit] Papuan or Papua New Guinean?

PNG was formed by a union of Papua - an Australian colony, previously British New Guinea, and New Guinea - a League of Nations, then United Nations, Mandate, previously German New Guinea. They were administered separately from 1914 to the Second World War. After the war they were administered together. Thus the term Papuan refers only to Papua, not the whole of PNG. The reference I edited was clearly to Papua and New Guinea together, so the correct term is Papua New Guinean. I know it sounds clumsy, but it is the term used. --Bduke 08:34, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
