[edit] Greasers Disappeared
Someone deleted the Greaser's Biographies... Is this Vandalism, or is there a reason for this?
[edit] First line of the novel
I edited this to replace a scatalogical reference with the true first line of the novel. In the subsequent vandalism repairs, my first line was also stricken. Just curious as to why? A stylistic thing? - Ddsilver
Why do we need the "The book was followed by the 1971 That Was Then, This Is Now" at the bottom? It makes it look like a sequel, which it isn't. Should this be deleted?
I wanted to wipe out the Socials and their leadership in an urban riot war. - John-1107V
[edit] Dystopian Novel?
I do not agree with The Outsiders being listed as a dystopian novel. It is not set in the future and is not science fiction related at all. I think we should remove it from the list of dystopian novels. - Milk 22:33, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I too think we should remove the Dystopian Novel heading. The only characteristic the book could share with a dystopian nnovel is that it takes place in a rough nieborhood, but if you actually read the wierdest book the nieborhood actually isn't that bad as Ponyboy explicitly states that most of the gang members don't lock thier doors. Deathawk 20:02, 2 August 2005 (UTC)
- In some ways, it is a dystopian one in that Dallas dies and is pretty well beyond redemption even before that. As well, just because by Ponyboy's standards the neighborhood isn't "that rough" doesn't mean someone else wouldn't perceive it that way. --24.80.119.229 03:53, 30 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] The Outsiders
THE OUTSIDERS IS THE BEST BOOK EVER
I don't like this book because it is too freakin long!{User: Alonna} I LOVE THIS BOOK! i feel sry for Johnny.. :(GreenDayGirl
- same here, but no1 feels srry for dally? u guys have no fricken heart. IThink4u 23:49, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
A few issues here...it was the gun that they had been given that started the fire, not a cigarette how much stupider can this get? And there's a lot of issues with how the article is written. It could use some attention. i lovee this book and all the ppl in it and i feel sorry for dally bc he wasnt that bad i mean come on.. and this book wasnt that long i mean seriously. if you think its too long you just cant read
So settle down people, if you like the book keep it to yourself or calm down. TostitosAreGross 01:05, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
I feel sorry for Dally, the way things turned out for him and such, the only person he loved, and who he was loved by died. He felt sarrow, and wanted death. Ace Fighter 01:33, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
i love this book. its awesome!
This book freakin rocks and if you thinks its long you are stupid! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.57.4.163 (talk) 23:50, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
== cause of fire == Sarah Lane is from
[edit] CAlhoun
Although I am not the one who wrote this article, I agree with the writer in that the cigarrettes started the fire. No where in the book or movie or really anywhere does it even hint that the gun had anything to do with it.
yes, the gun just went off BECAUSE of the fire happening. (because of the gunpowder reacting, most likely.)
There you go. I've created this section as a category. how can a gun go off, and start a fire? The ciggaretes seem more likely to start a fire. Burns something, such a a table. plus the church is wood so it seems more likely. Ace Fighter 02:21, 26 November 2006 (UTC) Tell me what you think of this. Anyone!

Um, out of curiosity, isn't this a book, not a film? As such, I believe it should go under the WikiProject Novels instea of WikiProject Films... Amalas 21:51, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
There's both a book and a movie. epsilon 04:59, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
hey people this book is dope...im not a reader but this book has got me tripping... props 2 S.E Hinton —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.200.135.51 (talk) 18:23, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The plot summary
This reads like a 14 year old wrote it for English class. It's full of spelling mistakes and badly-constructed sentences. If I get a chance I'll edit it, but of course everyone else can help a little too. you suck
- I would have flunked English if I'd written like that at 14 :) But the lovingly detailed physical description of Sodapop is worse. 64.132.218.4 18:36, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
- It does because it was. S.E. Hinton wrote this book when she was 15 and it was published when she was 16
-
- so who cares if it reads like a 14 year old its supposed to because it relates to that age. it is purposely full of grammer mistakes. helloo? has anyone heard of dialect? the outsiderss is a smexxi book btw ♥♥♥♥

- The original comment is not about the book; it's about the plot-summary section in the main article, which is why it's under the header The plot summary. And the comment is accurate: The summary is poorly written in many places—and goes into far too much detail. --ShelfSkewed talk 19:15, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Get Up Kids Song
Somebody should mention that the Get Up Kids have created a song about this book. It's called "Stay Gold, Ponyboy".
[edit] More Plot Summary Issues
Should this summary be so detailed? It's not very encyclopedic and goes into much more detail than one would expect. --Westendgirl 03:56, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
Yes. but it is benefitical for stupid people who don't want to read it. plus, its not that detailed. Well, I like how it's detailed. Ace Fighter 02:24, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
Can some one tell me what I'm missing? The section on differences between the book and movie mentions things that I have never seen in the film. For one, Sodapop's girlfriend. I've seen the movie dozens of times and never picked this up. Also Two-Bit's confrontation about (or is it with) Johnny's mother. Are these extended version details or what? Koth93 20:22, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
I think it's okay for this article to be detailed. It's on the internet so it's not wasting paper and it's useful for people that research these things. Jedi feline 10:16, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
- Instead of "researching" it, how about actually reading the book? It's not that long. 64.132.218.4 18:37, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Book scan
Any chance of replacing the image of the book with a true scan rather than this rip from Amazon.com? The 66% off mark is very distracting. --Geopgeop 10:11, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
Done. --Cbrown1023 01:58, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] characters
Anyone know the ages for the Socs? Thanks. IP 24...
[edit] San Jacinto Battle references
I think the Soc-Greaser rumble at the end was based on the San Jacinto Battle in 1836. Even though this book didn't take place in TX, it seems to have some allusions.
I believe that it doesn't sate them. Some fella

[edit] Vandalism
Pornographic image on the cover as well as some remarks —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Abanamat (talk • contribs) 04:05, 20 March 2007 (UTC).
I put another picture instead (there was a pornographic one before) temporary, note sure what's the rule with copyright (but anyway its better than what was before)
I have deleted the vandalism in the article also. Maybe we should ban PRChinaMan as he is the main culprit of the vandalism. Check here for the history. Aranho 11:16, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] 15 years old?
She was not 15, she was 17! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 143.238.244.158 (talk) 10:24, 8 April 2007 (UTC).
- She was 15 when she wrote it (or started writing it), 17 when it was published. See sources such as [1], [2], and [3]. Some sources say that she was 16 when she wrote it; specifically the amazon.com page description for the book, which many sites tend to copy. This may refer to when she actually completed the writing. Regardless, she was not 17 when she wrote it. MarphyBlack 11:13, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] pronounciation of "socs"
I always thought it was "socks", and so did my whole English class when we were reading this book. Do a lot of people say "soashes"? Jedi_feline | Talk 06:14, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
- A quick Google search of non-Wikipedia, third party sources all indicate that it is pronounced "soashes", not "socks". See [4]. I have not seen the movie, but I believe the word "Socs" had to have been used at least once, so it can be used as an official verification if need be. MarphyBlack 06:45, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, because that's the correct pronunciation. But I must admit that when I first read the book in 7th grade, [mumblety-mumble] years ago, I also thought it was pronounced socks.--ShelfSkewed Talk 06:47, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
we are studing it an thought it wassocks, but our teachertold u the right way, plus its hoiw it is in the film.Blacksmith2 talk 06:00, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
That's why "Bob the Soc" always makes me and my friends crack up. Bob the sock... hahaha xD 206.248.132.63 (talk) 00:41, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
