Article is confusing, lacks context, mentions unnecessary details about the movie's director. JoaoRicardo 06:29, 9 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Did a complete rewrite, but it's late and I need sleep. Please check my text and add if needed. --Plek 02:00, 10 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Until someone can find an unaltered version of this image, I've decided to take this image out of the article. This is a fan-made colorized image from the film. The real colorized version (produced by Legend Films) hasn't been released yet. There has been no attempt until recently to colorize the film. I would suggest that someone upload a new file of the same scene without fan alteration (I.E., in its original black and white state). (Ibaranoff24 20:13, 13 April 2006 (UTC))

This was taken as a screenshot from a legitimately purchased DVD. I've had another look at my DVD copy and it is puzzling. The cover art says in two different places "In Technicolor", and I know it was filmed in black-and-white, so that is a bit odd. On the other hand, are we sure there was never a Technicolor version? I mean, it was Howard Hughes' pet project and he poured huge sums of money into it - I've often wondered why not Technicolor as it was the cinematic "new toy" of the day. Maybe this was produced as a quickie colorization because the original film is public domain. It's not particularly good quality overall -gaudy in some places and patchy/faded in others. This particular image is acceptable quality though. But it's not a bootleg or pirated copy - it was legitimately purchased and attributes copyright and distribution rights to "Payless Entertainment" (not a particularly credible sounding name, granted). I have no problem with the image being replaced with a B&W image, (and the inclusion of Jane Russell would be a good thing too), but it's not "fan made" as you said, and the article states that it's colorized. It seems to comply with "fair use" despite the fact questionable status of the DVD from which I took the screenshot. Rossrs 02:08, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
  • I'm sorry, I guess was wrong when I said that there was no previous colorized version. When Legend Films releases their own version, I'll try and pick up a copy and upload a screenshot from their black and white version of the film. (Ibaranoff24 17:04, 16 April 2006 (UTC))
