This page is over zealously linked. References to 'sea', 'cliff' and 'lighthouse' should be removed.

No, they shouldnt. If you read the pages on sea, cliff and lighthouse you'll find there's a lot of information extremely relevant to The Needles, which is not general knowledge. --Steinsky 11:00, 10 Oct 2004 (UTC)

[edit] The Needles Old battery

"The Needles Old battery was built on the cliff top above the stacks in 1861–63 to guard the West end of the Solent." Before we are told where the "Old battery" was built, wouldn't it be nice to know what the "Old battery" is? Xientist 00:20, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Voila! Hope it makes sense to you now. Naturenet | Talk 16:09, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Requested move

The Needles (chalk stacks)The Needles – Disambiguation page was created which usurped the correct geographic name of this page and added a redlink to a band some hours ago. I have moved the disambig page to The Needles (Disambiguation), but am unable to move "Chalk Stacks" back to The Needles without admin assistance. Fiddle Faddle 08:36, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

  • This page should not have been moved in the first place. The correct disambiguation page The Needles (disambiguation) should have been created and this page mad an entry in that. "The Needles" is the correct geographic name for this location. I have created the disambig page with a correct title, but am unable to move this page back without assistance. While we are always encouraged to be bold, moving The Needles without at least a talk page discussion was a bold step too far. Fiddle Faddle 08:40, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

I've moved it William M. Connolley 09:32, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Stacks?

What does this sentence mean exactly?

The Needles Old Battery was a military installation built on the cliff top above the stacks in 186163 to guard the West end of the Solent.

What is a stack? --Filll 14:31, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

It is a term for a tall rock in the sea[1]. Naturenet | Talk 17:15, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
