Article created

I've demerged this from the main KLF article, as I think it's tidier to seperate the two, not least because a comprehensive KLF article could be quite lengthy. (See e.g. The Beatles and The Beatles discography for a nice example of how this arrangement can work).

In my introduction I've stated that this will be the British discography, not because of any imperalism but because KLF Communications releases are the truly representative examples of the KLF's work, and many of these were UK only. (Of course, many were hard to find even here!). Please comment below or make changes as you see fit. --kingboyk 14:16, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Formatting

I've created (so far) 2 templates to use in this article, Template:KLFsg and Template:KLFlp. The formatting of much of the page can be tweaked by just editing those (and it'll need it, artistic presentation is not my strong point). --kingboyk 16:10, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

Hey there. I love the layout of the discography, to the point where I think it should be the definitive layout for any artist's discography. However, according to Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums#Discography, the use of images is an "unnecessary application of fair use". They propose a much blander affair. I disagree with that remark: cover art is an important aspect of a band's output, and singles which do not necessarily merit articles of their own (say, "All You Need Is Love") deserve their covers to be seen, I think. Anyway, this will be a sticking point when the KLF discography is submitted for featured list status. --Vinoir 10:50, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, that's bullshit. There's a bit too much paranoia about copyright with regards to album cover art. What artist isn't going to welcome the free publicity?! The Beatles discography - surely one of the better examples on the site - uses images. I'll take a look at that policy and see if I can get it changed. Thanks for the headsup. --kingboyk 14:53, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
OK, if the guidelines don't work for you change em! :-) However I suspect it'll be changed back and a nasty message arrive on my talk page as image use is something which gets some people very worked up. I don't know why. Anyway! While we're on the topic, do you have KLF chart listings? Most of em are blank at the moment, meaning "I don't know" rather than necessarily "didn't chart" (although of course most didn't!). --kingboyk 15:06, 6 April 2006 (UTC) P.S. Wikipedia:What_is_a_featured_list?
Kingboy D would approve of that tactic, I feel. Nice one. :-) I've got chart listings for Australia from Library of Mu here, and I know that "Doctorin' The Tardis" reached #66 in the US. "Fuck The Millenium" got to #27 over here, and that's all I've found out on that front. Regarding the featured list criteria, I notice that it wants a comprehensive list. Hmmm. That'd take some doing (just ask Lazlo). The three Moody Boys remix 12"s were commercially released, so they arguably have a place, maybe in the additional notes to the relevant singles? --Vinoir 15:26, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
By the way, there are no UK charters other than "Millenium" and those already listed. --Vinoir 15:29, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
Would you add the book to the references list pse? (Guinness Book?) --kingboyk 22:36, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

Just a note to say that 2 months later, my change to the discography advice about images has stuck. That's long enough to consider it policy for sure :) --kingboyk 12:36, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

Chart placings

It'd be nice to fix ourselves up with one of those big chart placings tables like the one at Kylie Minogue discography#Singles. Do you know of any good ways we go about getting a request out for sourced international chart data? --Vinoir 01:03, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

No, I don't. Maybe can ask at one of the WikiProjects? --kingboyk 02:42, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
I asked User:Derek R Bullamore a few days back but he's got the same international chart placings problems as us. I've noticed that most international data for other artists (such as Kylie) are sourced from fan sites. --Vinoir 22:05, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

Good Article nomination has failed

The Good article nomination for The KLF discography/Archive 1 has failed for the following reason:

no references —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tarret (talkcontribs) .
Why does it a factual list need references? Are the facts in dispute? I note that The Beatles discography doesn't have any references either, nor do at a guess 99.9% of other discographies. Does that mean that no discographies will be eligible for good article status?
As for what we do about it, i.e. a comment to contributors (that's you Vinoir!) how can we put references in to a list and where will we get them from? --kingboyk 00:48, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
How about: A small section on KLF Communications - who they were distributed by, a mention of Scott Piering, any press references we can find (Music Week??), when the company was dissolved, etc., with some references. Nothing OTT, just 2 or 3 lines. A reference to a Record Collector or similar discography (there was a great article on them or 91 or 92, I bought it cos it had an Apple Records feature if I recall correctly, and thus did I enter the KLF's world). Lazlo's discog is the resource of course, and it's had 15 years of fan scrutiny, but alas I don't think it's a citeable resource. Beyond that, I don't see what can we do. Put a footnote next to each record in the list, pointing to a review or press release? That would surely be overkill and I think I'd rather have it as an uncertified article that I know to be good than to go over the top like that. Comments mon ami(s)? --kingboyk 07:17, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
Hee-hee. No references. That's an unexpected twist. Erm...I'm a bit stumped at the moment. I definitely think a short introductory article on KLF Communications is a nice idea. Next time one of us goes to a book shop, we should have a look in a copy of a good record collecting catalogue, look for the release dates, and cite the book as a source, I guess. If we also introduce the list with a brief explanation of what each entry contains, then that would be the place at which the footnote could be inserted. I reckon we definitely need some more international chart placing info before we submit this for featured status. --Vinoir 15:14, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

Alright! I've added a section on KLF Comms, which I think is looking good. There's a healthy number of footnotes now and general discography references (might need some better formatting though). I'll also add Waiting for the Rights of Mu. That leaves chart data. When that's done, we can ask the Good Article reviewer back to have an informal look. --kingboyk 00:19, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

Song Samples

I'd like to get some song samples uploaded, perhaps 2 for each album and notable song? Since I've done the screencaps, perhaps someone would volunteer to do this? :) They have to be OGG format, and from what I've seen a 30 seconds clip at FM radio quality or lower is considered fair use? I saw somewhere a nice template used within the text of an article containing the audio clip, I think it was in one of the Kylie articles? --kingboyk 07:21, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
