- It was a notable parody of cults, with specific references to some widely-discussed religions, and it was the the subject of the entire episode. Also, take a look at Category:Fictional religions. Merge if appropriate, and cleanup, but ultimately keep the information. Samaritan 20:56, 13 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- Merge as above, and cleanup as neccisary. --InShaneee 21:13, 13 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- This page is about a made up religion, not a made up word and thus does not fit into the article on Made-up words in The Simpsons. Rather it should be merged into the article on the episode in question, when that page is created. - SimonP 01:59, Jan 21, 2005 (UTC)

Heaven's Gate reference
The Movementarians in this episode also have obvious parallels with the Heaven's Gate cult. Maybe someone more competent than me could update? --EyeResist 09:33, 12 August 2005 (UTC)
More like scientologists.203.53.167.180 05:42, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
Special K
Man, why did that scene get cut from syndication? Lenny's bizarrely appropriate line about Burns being 'no bowl of Special K' made me laugh out loud the ONE time it was run. Was it cut out because Kellogg's and/or Disney wanted them not to use their logos? I sorta doubt that..
Robert Ludlum
That old guy in the airport asks a book seller if he has anything by Robert Ludlum, to which the seller replies: "Get out". Was there something about a hijacking in some of his books? I'm not sure I get this reference.
No, the bookstore is called "Only Crighton(?) or King" and obviously wouldn't have Ludlum books, and he's called Hans Moleman by the way.203.53.167.180 05:44, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
JAWS reference
Under cultural references, the following should be considered...
In the film Jaws - Quince (the shark guy) turns up - scratching his hands down the blackboard to gain attention - after the mother of a child eaten by Jaws offers $3000, says he'll find it for $3000 but will only kill it for $10,000.
Similarly, Willy enters the church and draws attention by scratching his down the blackboard - in an identical fashion - then offers his services in a similar fashion.
If you see the two scenes, the parallels in behaviour are undeniable. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.154.45.145 (talk) 01:08, 24 December 2006 (UTC).
Ideas?
- What else can be done to make this article of a higher quality? Smee 20:54, 10 February 2007 (UTC).
- Try modelling it after Homerpalooza or 'Round Springfield. Those are the two best episode capsules. -- Scorpion 20:56, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
- Hrm, will look into it - thanks! Smee 20:57, 10 February 2007 (UTC).
- If you are interested in trying to get the article to GA quality, I suggest listening to the DVD commentary for production info and getting a better display pic (I can help out there, if you need a screen cap, just say the word and I'll see what I can do). -- Scorpion 21:04, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
- Perhaps some of that should be merged into this article as well, and also add some of those picture here... Smee 21:05, 10 February 2007 (UTC).
- Also good ideas, will do! Thanks! Smee 21:05, 10 February 2007 (UTC).
- We could certainly use a high-quality screencap for the display pic... Smee 21:12, 10 February 2007 (UTC).
- Also good ideas, will do! Thanks! Smee 21:05, 10 February 2007 (UTC).
- On second thought, why not copy and/or add a substantial portion of the material on Movementarianism from Religion in The Simpsons to this article as well? Smee 21:14, 10 February 2007 (UTC).
- The thing about that is that it's crufty. It would be best to leave it in the religion article and add a small mention here. I also added a new display image. -- Scorpion 03:41, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, looks good. Since you are more familiar with it, perhaps you could add the portion of the Simpsons Religion page to this artice, that you feel is most appropriate? Smee 06:54, 11 February 2007 (UTC).
- The style guide for Simpsons episode page should also help you out. You have a good start here. Gran2 15:21, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
Synanon?
The Oneida did practice group criticism and maybe started the idea. On reflection though I wonder if this is more likely a reference to "the Game" practiced at Synanon. The reason I wonder that is that it more directly relates to cults that would've been around in the writers lifetime and nothing else seems to be referencing groups that died out before World War II.--T. Anthony 09:52, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
- Nevermind. I see Religion in The Simpsons says that the DVD commentary mentions Onedia.--T. Anthony 09:54, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
Noticed something...
Towards the end of the episode, Cletus points a double-barreled shotgun at "The Leader", then operates a pump handle on the shotgun. This doesn't make sense - double-barrels are universally break-action, while pump-actions are universally single-barreled. Should this be noted as a goof in the "Trivia" section?
