[edit] Notability

Premier episode of series - a series, by the way, that was one of the longest running dramatic series on American television, making the series notable and thus the first episode. First epidoses are notable according WP. ItsLassieTime (talk) 10:51, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

No, they aren't. Try again. Series notability is NOT automatically inherited by episodes, not even premiere ones. Collectonian (talk) 11:08, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
My understanding is that first and last episodes are notable -- but not necessarily all episodes. Please refer me to the WP policy on TV episodes. The article is so short I would like to know where the original research enters. maybe we can do something about it. Thanks! ItsLassieTime (talk) 11:14, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
I left some links on the other talk page, but to repeat WP:EPISODE, WP:FICT, and WP:N are the guidelines, while Wikipedia:Manual of Style (writing about fiction) is also a helpful supplement. First and last episodes are not automatically notable anymore than any other episodes. Their articles must establish notability apart from the series, and very few episodes can do this. If you do plan to work on episode articles, you might also want to look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Television/How to write an episode article to better understand how an episode should be formatted and why I made the edits I did. I've removed the OR tag as my recent edits removed all of the OR except the one bit that I tagged for needing a citation. Collectonian (talk) 11:19, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks! In this situation, I think it would be very difficult to establish the notability of this episode. The episode is 50+ years old and there is likely very little information. I'm not up for lengthy dead-end computer searches on this episode so I vote for merge or delete. ItsLassieTime (talk) 11:28, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
For now, merging is on hold as the list doesn't exist yet. :) I am, however, working on creating one...but boy...588 episodes. Yep...gonna take a little while ;-) Collectonian (talk) 11:32, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
Whew! Good luck on the episode list! ItsLassieTime (talk) 11:36, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
