[edit] Proposed merge of mixtape page
Would it be worthwhile bringing over DJ Skee & Nu Jerzey Devil - The Game: The Black Wall Street Journal Vol. 1 to the mixtape section? Is this a legit project from The Game? Richardjames444 20:11, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- never mind. I see that the album got added.
- It should be in the BWS article not this one, so I moved it. --Ted87 05:24, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

I don't think this is offical --Ted87 18:49, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
It's not. The page already has almost all the official ones. The only mixtapes missing are the Welcome to Compton ones and a few older ones.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.68.53.136 (talk • contribs)

[edit] Bootlegs

[edit] DA worldwide sales
There is no possible way that Doctor's Advocate sold 2.4 million copes. And I can prove this. At http://www.mediatraffic.de/index.htm, it says he sold 1.3 million copies at the end of 2006. Since he hasn't made the top 40 since then, the site does not show his weekly sales anymore. However, if you were to take the sales of the 40th position ever week starting in 2007 and add them up it would equal 897,000 copies.click here to do it yourself Assuming Doctor's Advocate sold exactly that amount (which it obviusly could not have) and add it to the 1.3 million he sold in 2006, it totals 2,197,000. So he infact sold a lot less then 2.4 million copies. --Ted87 00:46, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
- It currently says it's certified platinum, but there's no source, not even on the RIAA website. Is the platinum certification correct? Spellcast 02:19, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
- I don't think so. It probably eclipsed the million copies mark, but I can't find a place that says it was certified platinum. Unfortunaly most the editors on Wikipedia think once an album sells a million copies it's automatically platinum. --Ted87 17:56, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
- What I don't understand is why there is sometimes a difference between RIAA certification and actual record sales. Take 50's Get Rich or Die Tryin' for example. It's been certified 6x platinum by the RIAA yet this XXL source has it as 7.5 million. Why is there a discrepancy? Spellcast 03:26, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

what about the US sales?they have been at 904,000 for the past month, are you really telling me that game hasn't sold one unit in the last 4 weeks? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 158.125.9.4 (talk • contribs)
- It wouldn't be surprising if it's sold over a million by now. The problem is finding a reliable source that updates album sales. It's too bad SoundScan don't release their info to the public. Spellcast 02:28, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
Like I said, an album isn't automatically certified when it reaches a certain amount of sales. It is the record companies responsibility to arrange for them to recieve a plaque from the RIAA. --Ted87 07:39, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
well it is gold because it sold over 500,000 but under 1,000,000 in the U.S. ]Darius20 15:18, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[
- I just got a email from SoundScan. I asked them to tell me how many copies DA sold...

- Cool, so you actually emailed SoundScan? I don't know if it's worth paying that much just to know the sales of one album. Spellcast 19:36, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

- Yes, I emailed them... but I would never pay that much... so let's see for another source! ;-) --Abuseticket 21:26, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

Here is a link stating game has sold 1.3 MILLION COPIES but this information has been updated for months, so most likely he has sold maybe around 2 million>? http://www.clickitaliansoftware.net/hosted/vgcgroup/WorldwideAlbum/ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.174.200.62 (talk) 18:52, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Game appereances
I recently saw a mixtape (a G Unit mixtape more exactly) where Game appears, and he's got like 5 or 6 songs there, and above all it says game on the cover, should we add it to the list? or at least the songs?—Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.165.46.241 (talk • contribs)
Do you have a source where we can see it? --Ted87 17:41, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
is amazon.com good enough? I saw it on iTunes also if you want to check, next time I wanna write something I'll sign in first... but check that yourself, it's called "Fifth Element G-Unit Pt 8".
Anyways, I don't think the discography tracks mistape appearances. Just album. --Ted87 07:35, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] 1,177,000 Is Correct For Now
Do Not Change These Sales
http://www.clickitaliansoftware.net/hosted/vgcgroup/WorldwideAlbum/2006todate.htm —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.166.58.140 (talk • contribs)
- The problem with that link is it's a self-published website like GeoCities, so it doesn't count as a reliable source. But I don't know if that's any more reliable than the previous source, which seems to be a blog. I brought up the issue on the featured Gwen Stefani discography talk page, and that source wasn't accepted. Anyone can signup and just post their own sales. Spellcast 20:23, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
- Those are worldwide sales, by the way, so you shouldn't say that he sold 1,177,000 copies in the U.S., because if you look at the some of the sales, they don't make any sense, look at Timberlake's album, it sold 3.5 million in the U.S., and about 7 million worldwide. Check FutureSex/LoveSounds. I think the first column is previously reported sales, and the second one are the last updated sales. --- Realest4Life 18:03, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
- Ok then why is the worldwide sales 1.5 million? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.185.24.4 (talk • contribs)
- Because it's incorrect? I don't know, but what I do know is that there is no way that that website has the U.S. sales. The Timberlake example should be enough. --- Realest4Life 02:26, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- The sales make no sense. DA obviously sold more worldwide than in the U.S. If this is going to be a featured list, we can only use reliable sources. So I've removed the links to the self-published clickitalian.com site, which means the worldwide sales will have to be removed. It's probably accurate to some degree, but Wikipedia can only use reliable sources. And if that means not being the first to publish unreliable info, so be it. Unfortunately, clickitalian.com is being cited in other discographies too. Maybe when The Game gets his own cover story in like Vibe, XXL, or The Source, it could mention the sales, but for the meantime, it should be removed. Spellcast 16:39, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] mixtapes
what happened to the mixtape links?
[edit] DA sales (again)
This ref says Doctor's Advocate is multi-platinum. The source cites the Black Wall Street Europe forums, which says DA is a "multi-platinum West Coast banger". It can't be 2x platinum when there's nothing on the official RIAA site and when it was off the U.S. charts at 904,000 units. Spellcast (talk) 12:43, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
- The HipHopDX ref comes from this source, which is a forum. Forums aren't reliable sources because they have no credited authors. I know DA should at least be platinum but if there's no reliable source, it can't be added. Spellcast (talk) 03:52, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
