Talk:The Gabrieliad

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

[edit] Main Article Title

I noticed that the main article is placed at "Gavriliada", with a redirect at "Gavriiliada". Shouldn't it be the other way around? The first line in the article states the name of the poem as "Gavriiliada", which is of course a direct transliteration of the Russian name for the poem. • It definitely should, but I didn't have rights to move articles when I created this entry and I already made a mistake with its title -Cyberodin

OK, I moved the article and also corrected the spelling to make it consistent throughout. Gr8white 01:20, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Why do you say that Gabriel magically restored her maidenhood? There's nothing like that in the Russian version. Pushkin just assures us that every mother's daughter knows how to fake it on her wedding night and implies that Mary was no different:

  • О женщины, наперсницы любви,
  • Умеете вы хитростью счастливой
  • Обманывать вниманье жениха
  • И знатоков внимательные взоры,
  • И на следы приятного греха
  • Невинности набрасывать уборы...
  • От матери проказливая дочь
  • Берет урок стыдливости покорной
  • И мнимых мук, и с робостью притворной
  • Играет роль в решительную ночь...

Anyway, YHWH shows all the savoir faire of a teen-ager on Viagra. How would He know if Mary is a virgin? He's in such a rush He even forgets to transform Himself from Bird to Man!
