[edit] General Corrections
"Shoogar gets revenge by destroying Purple's shuttle in what turns out to be an atomic explosion." - literally "true", but tends to imply that Shoogar intentionally created an atomic explosion. Actually, he damaged the vehicle, which exploded. And "shuttle" makes one think of NASA's STS; I suggest something more general - "vehicle"?? "lander"??
I'd have called Purple an "astronaut-anthropologist".
"Dorthi, by killing him" -> "Dorthi, after killing him"
"must return to the now-radioactive area" - is the radioactivity important at this stage? Distance is.
"and be steered by bicycles" - gives impression that wheels are used - "cycle-driven propellers"??
"The vilage people then gave Purple Dorithi's scarlet sandles and made him the vilage wizard." - village, sandals, village.
The story was earlier published as "The Misspelled Magician" or "The Misspelled Magishun" - see N-Space bibliography, and Google.
Authors are Gerrold & Niven, not N & G.

I either have or will implement most of the corrections. One thing I disagree with you on. Purple killing Dorthi in the manner that he did MADE him the village magician. His surviving a fall from the sky made it clear he was a magician, and Gortik (unlike the inexperienced Lant) probably knew that this is how magicians succeed each other. See Shoogar's comments aobut his apprenticies.--Wehwalt 21:32, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
