[edit] The "First" International?
Was the group founded in 1848 really called "The First International"? That seems weird, why would you call it the first international, if there wasn't a second international to distinguish it from?VoluntarySlave (talk) 23:32, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
- Doing a little research on this, I can't find any reference to an 1848 "First International." There was an organization, in which Harney and others were involved, called the Fraternal Democrats, which proposed in International Congress in 1848, but that event never actually occoured.[1]. I haven't been able to find a copy of the Leno book, referenced in the article, in California; if anyone has access to a copy (it's available in the British Library and the Cambridge University Library, for instance) and could quote the relevant passages, I'd be interested to find out more. Otherwise, I'm inclined to redirect this page to the IWMA page (which is what is usually called the "First International").VoluntarySlave (talk) 21:26, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
