Talk:The Eyes of the Overworld
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The spoiler section is accusatory toward Cugel's behaviour and is hardly written with a neutral point-of-view. We're dealing with a fictional character in a work of fiction here, not some guy on trial for being amoral or whatever and the tone of this article needs to reflect that. Whenever I turn someone on to this book, the first reaction I get is that Cugel behaves appallingly (or if by a woman, that Cugel behaves appallingly to women). I don't see how that can be softened in any accurate review. The concept of an anti-hero is a familiar one in literature and need not be explained anew on every occurrence. What makes Cugel remarkable is that he manages to remain an anti-hero without tipping over into pure villain, despite many truly atrocious failings of character. [edit] Revised article
I've tried to offer more of a summary and to soften the critique of Cugel a bit. He *is* a terrible person, in real-life terms, but obviously Vance manages to win us over to him anyway. --Andersonblog 23:03, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
