Ah, The Evitable Conflict.. my favourite Robot story :) As I remeber it, it's not clear a the outset that the Machines are actually in control of humanity, dr. Calvin reveals it at the end. I added a parhagraph to explain that, perhaps the second paragraph should be changed also.
