[edit] Metaphor Line

The metaphor is apparently mixed, mainly referring to a motor race "Fuel burning fast on an empty tank", but featuring the repeated line "He's fighting and biting and riding on his horse".

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't horse another way of reffering to his race car? 168.28.136.14 07:50, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

Never heard that expression used in all my years of following motor racing. --MartinUK 19:13, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

I'm not saying its common, but it definately seems within CAKE's realm of description and metaphors. I don't really think he suddenly means that the guy is riding on a horse instead of in a car - but then, I think the whole bit is a metaphor for something else entirely. 67.34.40.25 11:50, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

Umm...I was allways under the assumption that both the tempo and the choice of words made this song a metaphor for sex, possibly even rape.

"But he's driving and striving and hugging the turns And thinking of someone for whom he still burns

He's going the distance He's going for speed She's all alone All alone in her time of need Because he's racing and pacing and plotting the course He's fighting and biting and riding on his horse

...

Bowel shaking earthquakes of doubt and remorse, assail him, impale him, with monster truck force."

Then again, maybe I'm just dirty

I second the first guy. 75.24.104.100 03:00, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wrong John McCrea

The note about "The Distance" not being written by John McCrea linked to John McCrea rather than the lead singer of CAKE, John McCrea (singer). I fixed it. Mitch 19:08, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A link to lyriki?

Anyone up to place a link to lyriki for this song? (I cant for I am using my Playstation 3 until I fix my computer)

Thanks. My user is DWNTS .
