I don't think the barney driving thing can quite be considered an error. Episodes are kind of set around real time (a year in the series takes a year, events such as st. patrick's day happen around the real event). The couple mentions barney doing the driving around Independence day (July?). The fiero episodes is broadcast in february, which gives barney at least 3 months to learn to drive adequately enough to escape (on a rural road with little traffic).
