3rd Season
The reality of a 3rd season keeps getting thrown around so I'm against putting in episode titles for a season until it has been confirmed.
whoever put in "ACT 27 -- Intermission", please post a link or the source of the rumor.
I deleted the entire 3rd Season thing because there's no evidence whatsoever on the internet for it. AND, to top it all off, Wikipedia is a source for facts, not rumors, so it shouldn't have been in there in the first place.
So, can someone elaborate on the "incident" with Lazzo? Dar 01:55, July 11, 2005 (UTC)
I'd really love that too, but apparently those who know tend to be tight lipped about the whole thing - Zopwx2 00:34, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
The Lazzo incident
Its a raging debate that I see brought up on this article often, and I will admit that even I myself put in a slight mention of it at one time. But now I see that it has really no place on the article at this time.
For the sake of curiousity, the supposed "incident" with Lazzo concerns him having some rather vindictive role in the cancellization of Big-O. It is known for certain that the series was desinged to have a third season, but that third season never came to fruition and an alternate last episode was created to attempt to wrap up the series prematurely. This is stated in the Big-O companion book by the director. Please keep in mind this is all speculative. Albiet perhaps...somewhat founded but still its all conjecture. Rather than go further into it, I'll just link this once more.
For those who are curious, you can read all about it on this website. I know its already linked on the article, but just for the sake of reminder. This website has everything you need to know.
Once again, I'm posting this because I highly advise against posting anymore information about this on the actual article. Trust me, I love this show and the idea that it was cut short of its full potential is infuriating to me. But I think this subject is far too scandalous and in the shadow's to be bothered with. While I personally think that some logical conjecture on wikipedia is fine, this is such a delicate topic among fans that for the time being I think its just not worth bothering to go into too much on this article. You never know what the future will hold, perhaps this isn't the last of Big-O, but for the time being beyond perhaps a slight mention I think its all just too messy to include at this time. --Kiyosuki 10:24, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
- Actually, from what I recall, the ending created for Act 26 was supposed to be inconclusive so that there could be room for a 3rd season. I've seen the script for the original Act 26 ending, and THAT was conclusive (or as conclusive as this show can get), ending with a closing curtain and all. Claude 05:04, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

- I don't claim to know every detail myself. This is just the commonly known speculations about the whole supposed incident. All thats known for certain is that a 3rd season was originally intended. It may very well still be possible. But when it comes to the nature of why it was canceled, and the whole Lazzo business I still think it should be mostly kept off the wiki for now.--Kiyosuki 06:34, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

- I've looked into the "3rd season was intended to be made to finish the story" idea, and the source of this idea seems to be this quote (copied here from http://www.freewebs.com/seebach/#writers ):
- "In about 1996, Keiichi Sato (Original Concept, Character Designer) called Kazuyoshi Katayama (Director) and worked out together the brand-new and some old fashioned "Robot Animation" plan. They built enormous image boards , sketching between 3 years. The Megadus(robots) of THE BIG-O, the most of main characters and the look of Paradigm city were made entirely by two. I was invited since production of this plan when the broadcasting were decided in 1999. I establish an attribute of "town which lost memory in 40 years ago" to the paradigm city, and adding character nature of Dorothy. I invited talented scriptwriters, and we spun a script and put it up. A little after the writing the scripts, the show's 26 episodes had been shorten to 13 suddenly.
- I didn't do that I digested the matter that I assumed by 26 stories by 13 stories entirely. And established the temporary conclusion in form to "still continue as for the story" by 13 stories and intended to wait for the opportunity that made a sequel. However, there wasn't despite the hit that the sequel can make immediately though the show got high evaluation from the Japanese audience. Thus we did only the determination to make a continuance someday.
- In 2000, THE BIG-O was broadcasted in an American Cartoon Network . Between American anime fans, an extremely big reaction was provided. Anime Jump presided by Mr. Michael Toole supported this. I give thanks to Mr. Michael Toole again. The American fan sent a voice to want to "watch the sequel" to Cartoon Network and Bandai America a lot. Production after the Act 14 episodes of THE BIG-O became possible hereby.
- From Act 14 producing to Act 26, we estimate these episodes as "Second Season" currently. Just after the Act 13, Act 14 story starts. I can't just make the last half that I assumed as all 26 stories. First Season could not but somewhat omit the vertical axis and the element (foreshadowings) at all 13 stories and a decided stage in order not to be able to respond in 13 stories. In addition, there were so many requests that they want the ending properly from Japan and foreign fans who watched to the first 13 stories. We are now creating "THE BIG-O" as we want to make, and to watch while hearing such the voices."
- Supporters of the "3rd season intended to finish the story" idea interpret this to mean that because the first 13 episodes didn't contain all of the content that was originally intended for them, that a 3rd season was intended to finish the story. This interpretation assumes that season 2 contains the same quantity of content that was originally intended for season 2 (although not the same content, because as the thinking goes, season 2 had to absorb some content originally meant for the first season). After reading the entire quote though, I believe that what happened was that like the first season, the second season was altered from the original plans, because if they had gone by the original plan, they wouldn't be able to finish the story in the 13 episodes allotted for season 2. So, the season 2 plan was altered, but they created it "as we want to make", which I interpret to mean that they told the story they originally wanted to by the end of the second season.
- Cartoon Network had an option to get a 3rd season of the show, but they turned it down. Because of the option, the original story was finished by the end of season 2, but was left open enough in case the 3rd season became a reality. I think that since the option was there, the writers are open to the idea of creating a 3rd season, but this 3rd season would have just been a continuation of the series (similar to how some other series like Dragon Ball Z continued past their original intended story).
- I won't change the article right now because I seem to be the only person that doesn't believe a season 3 was originally intended to finish the original story of the series, so perhaps there is something big that I have missed. If there is, please post it here so that I may be informed. If not, then I hope there will be people that agree with my conclusion and change the article to reflect this.

the "second season"
it cant really be called a second season more of a secnd series because it is marketed as the big o 2 and not big o season 2.
- What's often seen as "Seasons" in the US can also be known as "Series" in Japan. Big O II is still considered the second season. Claude 06:34, 4 December 2005 (UTC)
Where did that first quote come from? "I created it in God's name," etc.? I don't seem to remember that being in the series. Can someone confirm or deny?
It was in there, just on Cartoon Network, they changed it to cast in good's name due to those obnoxious religous fanatics who call and insult Cartoon Network whenever they mention God or nay other religioius things.
- Actually, they changed it so the religious fanatics wouldn't bother them.--Claude 02:29, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
Big O on Adult Swim and 3rd Season?
i was watching Adult Swim 2 nights ago, and during the part of adult swim where they use the text on a black background with some jazz-like music playing in the background they were talking that The Big O was returning, but they were saying things like "Will Roger get with Dorothy" or something like that, implying that they were airing a 3rd season, is this true?
- ya i've seen alot of these as well... also talkin about angel destroyin the city or somethin
- asf doesnt seem to have anythin about it on their commercial download area yet... unles i missed it

Well i saw that also there were just talking about the already made episodes being aired agian. cuz the last one said something like. "Get confused all over agian" (Fulldemon Productions)
Adult Swim continues to talk about Big O on their "bumps", meaning they know what fans want, and they ARE doing something. However Adult Swim, being vague and sarcastic, puts out confusing quotes in the bumps. One being "Continues to cease indefinitely". This may be left for interpretation, but it sounds like nothing will happen. -- Team Leader 2:04 (02:04) AM, August 17th 2006
Question about Episode 21/AS airing
According to how AS normally airs stuff, Big O was supposed to finish on Tuesday. But then they go and air Episode 26 on Monday, tonight. And then I look at the schedule, http://www.adultswim.com/schedule/index.html which says they skipped Episode 21 for some reason. Ep 21 is The Third Big, which I distinctly remember seeing, so what's up with this?
First airing closing
Does anyone seem to think it worthy of mention that the first airing closing was different that subsequent airings? If I remember correctly at the time the opening wasn't shown either and it was on Midnight Toonami. Does anyone know why the openings are shown now but the openings for Inuyasha aren't shown, but the openings for Fullmetal Alchemist are? Hackwrench 06:09, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- A lot of anime opening or closing sequences are edited out of American broadcasts due to time constraints. The original versions generally are designed to run 24 minutes, while nearly all American shows in a half-hour time slot are written to fill 22 minutes. Better to take out credits than content, I suppose... ~ vexingthoughts 01:41, 17 August 2006 (EST)
There are other factors pertaining to the system airing them, since Toonami didn't use any of the real openeings for their shows, but Adult Swim did (such as the first few months of Inuyasha's airing), that may be a factor in this also. Although the above is the most important. -- Team Leader 2:08 (02:08) AM, August 17th 2006
