As usual, another orientalist portrayal of an Eastern setting, from a Western point of view. Old cliches that have relatively little sympathies or concerns among people living in Vietnam. Portrayals are endless in Hollywood cinema of mixed children trying to find their fathers is kind of an insult to Vietnamese women and their country. Great cinematography though. It makes Vietnam look rather cheap and dependent. User:Le Anh-Huy.

The film wasn't really about him insulting his mother by leaving her, nor does it make (IMO) Vietnam look cheap. But I do agree that it is slighly misconstrued and off-center, being that it was written by a non-Vietnamese person. Calicore 06:20, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
