[edit] Focuses on Chinese food?
Does the film focus on Chinese food, as, for example, Eat Drink Man Woman? Badagnani 19:11, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Blanking
Please do not blank data (particularly as regards very notable actors in this film) without discussing first, thanks. We're a community and unilateral, undiscussed blanking is usually considered a bad thing. This film is particularly notable for including a large number of well known actors and actresses, and many of those blanked from the cast list are huge stars. Wikipedia is not paper and there's no reason why we cannot have a very good, comprehensive article about this subject. It's as deserving of comprehensive treatment as any other article on any other film. Badagnani 10:02, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Again blanking, this time on a massive scale and undiscussed, including the clearly sourced cast list? And this is an admin doing this? This type of behavior is really poor and again undermines the trust our community places in its admins. Please reverse yourself and act in a civilized manner, thanks. [edit] Cast list
I agree with User:Badagnani. As one of the editors of this article, I will endeavour to locate some sources to support it. I believe that if anyone finds articles that they feel are missing sources, rather than simply deleting swathes of information that people have spent time and effort compiling, a better course of action would be to go looking for the sources yourself to support (or refute) the article's content. We are here to create and improve articles, so why just delete content without good reason? If the user who deleted the content is an Admin, then they should know better. And if they can't be bothered to locate sources for the article themselves, then adding the "unreferenced" template saying "this article doesn't cite it's sources" would be sufficent.
In most film articles, where there is an exhaustive cast list, I would agree that it does not really improve the article. Under normal circumstances, it should probably be left to key cast members and important cameos.
However, I believe that this particular film is different. A large number of Hong Kong actors and crew were involved, as they were all lending their support to the charitible cause for which the film was made. It is therefore an integral part of the article, more important, even, than the plot of the film. Gram123 14:01, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
- This is well reasoned. We are all here (or should be) for the same reasons, to work together to build the best and most comprehensive encyclopedia possible. Sourcing is important so we shall source. Badagnani 14:08, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Third Opinion on Cast list
From WP:3O.
- Normally, a cast list as extensive as this one is not good.
- Apparently, the extensive cast is the raison d'ĂȘtre for this movie, or at least a significant contribution to its notability and encyclopaedic value. Therefore, a more extensive cast list may be justified.
- I suggest removing all cast members that are not major characters or Hong Kong celebrities.
- Per Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/Style guidelines#Cast and crew information, the cast section should be prose, not a list. An extensive list of cast members (taking into consideration the above) is not fit for inclusion in Wikipedia. I do not suggest immediate removal though, as long as it is understood that the list should be rewritten as prose.

- I have re-formatted the cast list into a core cast, followed by paragraphs grouping the majority of the other actors. These paragraphs could be trimmed down to remove some of the red-linked actors, though just because these people don't have articles, doesn't mean they're not well-known.
- As noted, the point of this film was for a huge number of people to show their support for the cause, and watching it is something of a "spot-the-star" game. As such, most of the people involved are well-known, particularly to Hong Kong audiences. As such I am loathe to start reducing the list at present.
- If I have time, I will search through the acting roles played by each of these red-linked actors. If any of them have not played a number of major film roles, or have only played roles in films that have not had western releases, then they could be considered relatively unlikely to have articles written about them in the near future, and therefore could be removed. However, this is a bit of a chore, and I'm not going to be able to do it immediately.
- Hope people feel that what I've done so far is an improvement. Gram123 11:22, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- It's a definite improvement, thanks. One question though - are those redlinks people we should (eventually) have articles on? >Radiant< 13:55, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
-
- Well, that's the question, isn't it. I need to go through them all (or someone else could) to see what films they've been in, i.e. to determine if these people are "notable" and therefore likely to get their own articles, or not.
- Personally speaking, I know of some who don't have articles, but I think they should: John Shum, Mars, Sylvia Chiang, Ku Feng, Lee Hoi San, Melvin Wong, Chor Yuen and Billy Lau. But then my knowledge might not be as extensive as other people's or people may disagree with those I've specified, or say "x is more famous than y" or whatever. I have some quite large tasks to do at present, and one of them was going to be creating new articles (at least stubs) for notable HK actors / personnel. I recently created James Tien (actor) and Ng See-Yuen, and have been working on Sammo Hung, Yuen Biao, Jackie Chan, Richard Ng, Rosamund Kwan etc. But there are so many, and it's not necessarily easy to find info if you can't read Chinese! So the answer is, I don't know, at present. Gram123 15:00, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
- Okay :) Well, we're not on a deadline or anything. >Radiant< 08:50, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Names
I've been correcting some of the names in the article. I also went through all of the red linked names, and searched for the Chinese (Cantonese, I think) names for these actors, then tried looking on Wikiepedia for the Chinese versions just in case. I considered adding these to the article as it makes it a little clearer who these red-link people are, but if there's no article, it may just be irrelevant extra detail. Anyway, I'll list them here and it may help should anyone want to create articles for any of these people.
