[edit] Lyrics
The lyrics, are they public domain? Pretty sure they are, how to find proof though... There is this site http://www.tradebit.com/filedetail.php/603364 with a kid's album, where it says the song is public domain, in which case it's OK to keep the lyrics in the article. - Even if the lyrics are public domain and can be posted here without legal issues, I think that they should be utilized to strengthen the article rather than comprise the majority of the article with no analysis or constructive use. The lyrics are largely repetitive - the part most people are probably most familiar with is the chorus. Do you think a better alternative to indiscriminately displaying the lyrics would be to display the chorus and maybe a verse and perhaps offer a supported analysis connecting the content to its Civil War roots? - Sounds good. Maybe something similar to how it's done here http://usscouts.org/bbugle/bb0205/bbsg.html (?) and then the analysis which sounds to complicated for me to make for example, but i like the idea and hope someone does it. Bib 09:13, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, if the lyrics are public domain, then they should live over on Wikisource. The article needs to be about the song. Whether or not the lyrics are permissible to display, I'm not convinced that the full lyrics are appropriate for inclusion in an encyclopedia. I'm inclined to take them out of the article.
