Dear anonymous user:

Please state your reason for believing that the story is set in 1887. Kelisi 22:55, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)

The story is definitely not set in 1887. The original version of the story as published in the Strand Magazine in August 1893 reads: "I cannot be sure of the exact date, for some of my memoranda upon the matter have been mislaid, but it must have been towards the end of the first year during which Holmes and I shared chambers in Baker Street. It was boisterous October weather..." As Watson arrived back in England in November 1880 and moved into 221B Baker Street with Holmes some little time later (see A Study in Scarlet), the action of "The Resident Patient" must take place in October 1881. [edit] What is wrong with this article?

Why are your layers becoming transparent

[edit] Would this be set in the years after the death of sherlock holmes

In the Adobe Ebook version, the first line writes "Glancing over the somewhat incoherent series of Memoirs with which I have endeavored to illustrate a few of the mental peculiarities of my friend Mr. Sherlock Holmes, I have been struck by the difficulty which I have experienced in picking out examples which shall in every way answer my purpose."

wouldn't this mean that this is a reflection of some of the adventures they did before? Also the story speaks in past tense signifing that it may be after holmes is "dead"
