Star Trek: The Next Generation was the first incarnation of Star Trek to be released in DVD box sets. These box sets were initially released in North America and then in Europe following an approximate two month delay. These box sets had a suggested retail price of $139.99 in North America and £84.99 in the UK. Paramount Home Entertainment UK have announced that they will be re-releasing all seven Seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation in smaller box sets and at a reduced recommended price of £34.99.

The box sets known as the "Asian Edition" or "Chosen Collection" which are region-free are confirmed as being bootlegs.

A Complete Series box set with new packaging was released in the US on October 2 2007 to celebrate the 20th anniversary. It came in a green box with the discs stored in double sided disc trays. It contains all the same discs as the previous sets plus a bonus disc with new material. The bonus disc also contains several short features that were excluded from the original region 1 releases. They were only available through Best Buy promotions for a limited time.

In 2004, Paramount Home Entertainment announced a release of Jean Luc Picard box set. In early 2006, Paramount Home Entertainment (US) announced they would be releasing four small box sets containing ten episodes. These box sets would have fans' favorite episode on a particular sub-genre, for example The Borg or The Klingons. The fans were able to vote for the episode on www.startrek.com. In March 2006, Paramount Home Entertainment (UK) announced that these four box sets would be released in the UK in late 2006.
