Sol Bianca: The Legacy (太陽の船 ソルビアンカ?) is a 1999 miniseries of six episodes loosely based on the original Sol Bianca and employing computer generated animation. Unfortunately for fans of Sol Bianca, this new version throws out the plot and continuity of the original two-part show, leaving the dramatic cliffhanger story of the original utterly unresolved. Also striking a sour note for fans of the 1990 original is the fact that the character designs, artwork and frame rates are of significantly lower quality in comparison to the 1990 show. The staff of Sol Bianca: The Legacy decided to do away with the fluid, hand-animated Sol Bianca ship itself, instead rendering all of the spacecraft with now rather dated-looking computer graphics, and "re-imagining" the story in a separate timeline. As a result, as well as now looking and acting differently (attractive fan favourite Janny is now portrayed as a silent, butch-looking bodybuilder) most of the female characters are "compromised" by men during the new series in verious love scenes - quite a turnaround from their somewhat fun portrayal as tough space pirates in the 1990 original. The Region 1 release spans three DVDs.
