Small Steps: The Year I Got Polio

Small Steps: The Year I Got Polio is an autobiographical account of Peg Kehret's experience with polio. (Kehret is named Margaret Ann Schulze in the story). In 1948, when Kehret was 12 she was diagnosed with 3 types of polio. The story tells her family, her new friend (polio survivers) and Peg getting through her case of polio.

It won the Dorothy Canfield Fisher Children's Book Award.[1]
